I didn’t even notice earlier that Wham were (only just) ahead of Mariah.

 

Definitely looks like this is becoming the new Christmas favourite.

Wham!'s lead over Mariah is now bigger than Mariah's lead over them was last week.

Good to see Gayle holding onto a place in the top 5 even with all the Christmas songs, I’m hoping she can stay top 20 throughout the Christmas rush then reach #1 in January!

Do you guys think that last year will be the first and only year AIWFCIY will be #1 in the UK?

Can you imagine if Wham! had overtaken Mariah at the same time last year? She would still be lumbered with a #2 peak, across 10 or 11 weeks from 5 or 6 different years! She may well come close again, but at least she actually got there.

I think I prefer Last Christmas to All I Want For Christmas Is You now, so I'm happy it appears to be doing better.

I got bored of Mariah Song like 10 years ago... it was good at it's time but now it just sounds so trash IMO. The Wham song has grown on me over the years too, fact it's not really that Christmassy helps.

I actually think it sounds sooo Christmassy due to it being ubiquitous with this season!

I've always felt a lot more attachment to things like Wham, Slade and especially The Pogues than Mariah's song personally.

Always loved Slade due to the lyrics and what the songs about, and how they describe Christmas traditions unlike the Mariah song which is more a relationship song!

Maybe its because its a more Americanised track that I don't feel the same appeal towards it. I mean I love Jingle Bell Rock but other than that my Christmas favourites are pretty much exclusively British ones.

I think I’m the same in general. There’s just something to the British Christmas songs.

Its peak last year was a couple of weeks after the equivalent of this week so it's doing really well if it's even close to getting a new peak this week (especially as it was lagging behind its equivalent 2020 positions the last two weeks, going 70-29 compared to 46-20 in the same weeks last year).

Kelly Clarkson has crazy playlist support this year, more than ever, should even have a chance at top 10
