BOTA will easily get it in that case

I’d say the opposite but happy to be proved wrong

Sure it’s well ahead on apple and Spotify but that’s a fairly big lead already and it’s been ahead for a while, Amazon music is its biggest downfall. I’m certain the gap will be well closed by friday but not entirely convinced it will overtake.

Oh yeah BOTA should get it - especially as the lead on Spotify has grown over the last 24 hours and there is missing Spotify data

LF SYSTEM were actually pulling ahead from Sunday to Monday, not to say that can't be reversed of course but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion yet

Hard to say, when sales are so low 2K is a lot to overtake

Just outside the top 40:

42 Fred again & SHM

43 Alesso & Zara

51 Ghost

hope some make it into the top 40, the 31-40 section is a snoozefest

I don't look at the charts or post very often but I had to this week. Although I like Steps, I really don't agree with the manipulation of the charts just to get a number 1. They have like 11 editions of their album, so basically it's a fake number 1, yet again. Madonna is hardly going to go and do HMV signings. The charts are fake as hell. I believe only 1 CD, vinyl, cassette, digital download and streaming should count towards the chart. No wonder no one cares about the chart. Such a shame, they were great once.
I'm surprised Steps haven't reduced the prices on their CD's, I was holding off to get one lol. I did order the personally signed vinyl, it hasn't been dispatched so those could add a bit to the total sales.

I think their lead is comfortable enough for them not to feel they have to plus they have done the remix releases plus the crash records release... annoying I was hoping for a price cut too

Would love Nicki to climb into the Top 10 and BLACKPINK to stay Top 25

It's not a fake number 1 when number 1 is determined by who sells the most. If Steps fans buy more copies of their album in the week, then they have the number 1.

All of the main contenders this week have multiple formats and bundles available. Madonna included. So Steps don't have an automatic advantage just because they put more options out there. People still have to buy them.

It's what everyone does now to boost their first week sales, there's a market for it. Without acts doing this album sales in general would probably be in the doldrums for real.

Maybe Madonna should go do some signings in HMV instead of doing half ass promo... But then that would mean she has to be nice to her fans for a change so fat chance of that

Nope, if hardcore fans buy 16 variations of the same album, then it's manipulation and it's a fake number 1. And Madonna only has a 1 and a 3 CD and some vinyl. It's fake, desperate and underhanded, just like Taylor Swift and her signed CDs. Popular artists like Adele don't resort to that. Watch it drop like a stone next week.

There's nothing to stop Madonna also doing 16 variations, or signings, or any form of promo.

It would drop like a stone next week even without the variations. They're a first-week legacy act.

It's not 'manipulation' when they have to actually sell these variations and special editions — there is clearly an appetite for them. They sell the most this week, they're number one — fair.

No, not fair. What would be fair is to only have, 1 CD, vinyl, cassette, download and streaming to contribute to the charts, not 16 variations to inflate sales, so it's fake and you won't convince me otherwise.

If it sells 20,000 copies, people will assume that 20,000 different people bought it, not 10,000 fans buying all the variations, so it's fake and if you don't see that, you're either lying to yourself or you're stupid.

It's not sales inflation when people literally have to put their hand in their pocket and pay for them. As already said, they're catering to their fans and so they should be able to.

If people assume that, they're assuming wrong - the terminology is clear in saying "20,000 sales" or "20,000 copies". If you infer that it must be 20,000 unique people owning it, then you're the one jumping to conclusions.

But you've made your mind up so there's not really much point continuing this lol.

Its much more real than counting streams. People are buying the product - multiple times if they wish, that has always been the perogative of the buyer - though of course if you did it too much you'd get the song/album banned due to suspicious sales patterns - rather than a person paying for a service (or not) and then either passively (playlists) or actively playing a track/album.

To be fair, 11 formats is excessive - I'm assuming people like Jay are having to go without food this month just to ensure he owns them all.

In the 90s when multiple cd singles began to be a thing to increase sales and grab a higher chart position, the OCC reacted by limiting the number of formats that could count to the chart - I expect that is what they would do here if it were not for the fact that it would make the sales climate even more dire than it is already.

The same could be said of many albums though, especially older ones. I've bought OK Computer by Radiohead 6 times now I think. And Queen's greatest hits will have lots of people who bought the original on cassette/vinyl, then bought an updated CD version... and then possibly also bought the 3CD variant... then probably bought it again on vinyl now it's fashionable... there's not really that much of a difference in the long run.

It's not sales inflation when people literally have to put their hand in their pocket and pay for them. As already said, they're catering to their fans and so they should be able to.

Of course it's sales inflation. If 1000 fans buy 16 variations that's 16,000 'sales' it's fake as f*** and totally misleading and it's pathetic that some of you can't see otherwise.
