Second listen of this today already as I heard 'greedy' out and about  I've warmed to Tate a lot more this year although am more of an 'exes' fan

'greedy' a huge bop!

Oh my an actual current Top 40 hit (disclaimer: as of last week) that isn't a Christmas song! Not a huge fan I'm afraid

Greedy  one of the best of the year, still utterly obsessed with this and slay at it doing so well as a quite late release *.*

top 10 EOY next year hopefully! (tho top 40 I'll take and is probs more realistic) + hopefully another album track smashes!

Where on earth are Fairytale of New York and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

Biography

The Pogues were an English or Anglo-Irish Celtic punk band fronted by Shane MacGowan and others, founded in Kings Cross, London in 1982, as "Pogue Mahone" – the anglicisation of the Irish Gaelic póg mo thóin, meaning "kiss my arse". The band reached international prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s, recording several hit albums and singles. MacGowan left the band in 1991 owing to drinking problems, but the band continued – first with Joe Strummer and then with Spider Stacy on vocals – before breaking up in 1996. The Pogues re-formed in late 2001, and played regularly across the UK and Ireland and on the US East Coast, until dissolving again in 2014. The group did not record any new material during this second incarnation. Their politically-tinged music was informed by MacGowan and Stacy's punk backgrounds, yet used traditional Irish instruments such as the tin whistle, banjo, cittern, mandolin and accordion. - Wikipedia

Oh wow, I assumed 'greedy' was going to miss out! The way #74 on the EOY is actually impressive for a Q4 hit these days lol

Mute time, evil evil song idk

Omg yay  my fave Xmas song this year! Such a beautiful one

Oh my an actual current Top 40 hit that is a Christmas song! :magic:

Sad circumstances for its resurgence up the pecking order this year (RIP Shane and Kirsty) but this will remain an evergreen classic

Probably the last time we see FONY here

'Fairytale Of New York' whilst not near my fave is still a lovely song and extra emotional now of course!

Should've skipped this since Christmas is over.

One best Christmas song all time

very high for FONY wow!

Should've skipped this since Christmas is over.

Don’t start Christmas end 6th January

I guessed that Brenda would just about outdo The Pogues for the whole year though of course the latter were ahead for several weeks! I wasn’t expecting either to quite be Top 75 though!

Biography

The mid-2000s saw no lack of garage-rockin’ skinny-jeaned upstarts vying to join The Strokes and The Libertines on the cover of the NME. But not only were Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys able to whip up a media frenzy worthy of their heroes, they managed to thoroughly transcend it and become a rock institution unto themselves. Only 16 when he founded the band in 2002, singer/guitarist Alex Turner swiftly established himself as a songwriter of uncommon wisdom and wit, helping make the band’s scrappy 2006 salvo, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, the fastest-selling debut album in UK history. If that record suggested Turner was a natural inductee to the Ray Davies/Paul Weller/Damon Albarn school of British pub-rock philosophers, the Monkeys refused to settle for being a homegrown phenomenon and set their sights on global domination. By 2009’s Humbug, they were seeking riff-thickening advice from producer Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, while their 2013 blockbuster, AM, cracked the US Top 10 with the sort of sing-along stompers (“Do I Wanna Know?”, “R U Mine”) naturally suited to the festivals they routinely headlined. But once they established themselves as one of the world’s biggest rock bands, the Monkeys proved they could be among its most adventurous, too: On 2018’s glam-jazz concept album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, Turner weaves a complex sci-fi narrative to address real-world woes like capitalism and media addiction, keeping his feet on the streets even as his band now orbit the stars. - Apple Music
