I've been out running a film club (watching a great new Indie film) so had to play catch up with this!

OMFG finally broke my NQ streak. Thanks to whoever voted for me. I've loved my artists sound for years but loved doing a deeper dive on his stuff (although completely forgot my song is actually 7 years old....)

Glad to see I only lost 2 of my votes as well:

A DNQ is no barometer of the merit of a song anyway - Pink Pony Club is challenging for No.1 this week (yes I’m aware it had a deduction but clearly it would only have been like 15th in its semi anywa

idk i think the 33% deduction is enough punishment, feels a bit excessive to dropkick Yuxhaaq down over 2500 spots as well :(

Testing copy pasting tables into Invision 4 and it is very janky (without having persevered too much) in that I can't seem to edit the table easily but it's now doable yay.

The results were ALMOST a bloodbath but the last reveal really saved it.

I debated whether to put you in my top spot too over [REDACTED] for a while and now I feel like shit because I actually think you would have qualified if I had 😭

I'm glad to have set up the carwash but sad for Aelandor — ML Buch had my twelve points <3

Maybe I'll just give up at this point 😅 I feel like nothing I enter resonates with anyone any more while at the same time the most bizzare tracks are soaring through

You really never know what will resonate with people. I’ve been struggling to get a hit lately with only like 5 Top 10s in the past 7 or so years of irregular participation but it’s still satisfying because I always get at least a couple of fans of my sawng and it’s enough

Well done for hosting so well despite all the site changes Cody!

So happy for Keke Palmer qualifying. I was a bit worried for its chances but it's a song I've loved for years now, so I'm glad some others enjoyed it. She's such a lovely presence in general too.

Sad to see Jupiter feeling down after not qualifying. It was one of my high pointers. Please stick around!!!!

Hey! I've been in this position before and probably still am a lot of the time (9 NQ's out of 11 kind of does that to you!)

I agree that it does seem that bizarre/niche songs get through whilst songs that would have a greater chance of succeeding outside of BJSC (i.e. with the general public or even on the BJ Multi-chart) do not qualify.

It sucks and it really dented my confidence a few times. It took me a while to get over one of these results in particular (I'm still low key annoyed that a song of mine scored votes from 9 people, whilst another song got high votes from less people and qualified over me.....).

I thought about leaving and not coming back (even posted saying this) but then decided I could help with the pop bloc, even if my own song didn't qualify. Plus I've found some great songs I wouldn't otherwise have heard.

It is always about how you feel & I hope you continue, but at the same time it is what is best for you.

Thanks Cody for the smooth hosting, navigating the new format and for putting Singerpurear up first, that makes it a stress-free read for me 😀!!

Thanks anyone who voted for German Film Star, and condolences to these we lost from our votes:

6: Cheiron • Rodriguez - Rich Folks Hoax

5: Ajanaeda • Q

4: Eastovka • Armin Van Buuren & Natalie Gioia - Viva L'Opera (Mixed)

3: Wholune • Scowl - Not Hell, Not Heaven

2: Yehesi • Q

1: Kylienips • Kim Wilde - Hourglass Human (feat. Scarlett Wilde)

Rodriguez is always worth a listen, vintage act who never made it, Viva L'Opera I wonder if the single edit would have done better, Scowl were boppy, and I would have gone for Lighthouse off the album for Kim as a classy ballad entry, but I do love Kim and Scarlett seen them many times! It just got knocked down the points a bit by the competition.

J00p I'm sorry you feel a bit despondent at the mo, my first 12 entries or so were all DNQ's till I got a feel for what would get points, but then I decided to just enter songs that I loved to bits, or thought were unusual and interesting, and not worry about which clicked and which didn't. One fan of one song is still a win! And you get to say "I told you so" when it gets to be a hit 😄I generally like your entries, some I love, and some get edged out of the points, sometimes it's just down to being in the wrong semi, which you have no control over and can make all the difference. I bet everybody remembers my last entry TRUCKS for years even if they didn't like it and didn't vote for it, so that makes me very amused 😂

100% agree to the last bit. It made my heart fuller when someone gave max points to my 1st ever entry (Ciaran Lavery). He was someone I'd listened to for years and is also the smallest gig I've ever been to (he played to like 4 people, which included me and my friend). For the most part I have sent artists/songs I like, rather than trying to get a qualifier.

Even with my Salt Ashes entry, I loved the song and just saw it as a bonus that it would give me a better chance of qualifying, but alas it was not to be!

I honestly think the best tactic is to just send songs that you really like. I imagine that my entry this month could be described as being in the 'bizarre/niche' category but it is a song I really love at the moment so decided to send it... if I still did a personal chart then I'd imagine it would be #1 for me right now. If it had DNQ'd then I'd have been fine with it because not everyone is bound to like it just because I do, but instead I got a really pleasant surprise of it going through and some people saying that they'd liked it. Some of my favourite experiences in the contest are where I've had a song that has resonated in a way I never expected - things like Headache that I totally expected to flop but actually ended up with some people who really loved it as much as I did.

Whenever I've DNQ'd then I've only really been hugely disappointed when it has been a song that I entered because I thought everyone else would like it - that sucks in a way because I ended up feeling like people should have liked it but they didn't and therefore it felt harsh... but after my first couple of years I realised that actually I never really loved those entries myself so why should I have expected other people to? And more fundamentally it sucked because it was myself who had sent something for the wrong reasons and in doing so kind of created an unfair and unrealistic personal expectation on everybody else in the contest to like it just because I thought they would.

I appreciate I'm in a fortunate position of proportionately not having that many DNQs, but the DNQs after my first couple of years where I've sent something I loved haven't stung anywhere near as bad, because I didn't regret sending them and it's okay if they didn't resonate with others. Plus also a DNQ doesn't automatically mean that people didn't like my song, it just means they liked others more.

A DNQ is no barometer of the merit of a song anyway - Pink Pony Club is challenging for No.1 this week (yes I’m aware it had a deduction but clearly it would only have been like 15th in its semi anyway without one).

I’ve had DNQs with some of my favourite songs I’ve ever sent but I agree that I have very few regrets with my entries - clearly I always loved them at the time. The Turkish song I went out with two contests ago is fantastic and charming - it’s no less a song because it didn’t make it into the final.

I do like when some of the less conventional stuff makes it into the final on here - because several songs in this final would never have any chance whatsoever to cross into the mainstream, but that doesn’t mean they are not deserving of being heard and enjoyed, they just don’t suit commercial tastes.

I've had my fair share of DNQ's as well and I know how disheartening it must feel, but that only helped me push finding my ground and courage sending songs I truly love here in BJSC!!!

My favorite part of the contest is indeed when I qualify with a song that I have zero expectations of Q-ing, and I'm speaking for most of them that are actually retro. It's like I fall in love with those songs all over again, and I've even grown to love some of those songs more than when they originally came out!!!

I've also learned to always go with low expectations, so when they succeed it's just a cherry on a top.

Thanks @Cody Buckley for hosting. A lot of my favourites made it through, but I am sad to lose both Cheiron (6) and Zanmatony (4) who I felt really stood out in that semi.

Very sad to lose @dhwe from the other semi. Broadcast joins other classics such as Massive Attack's “Unfinished Sympathy” in the unjustly DNQ'd pile 😔

Wrt to DNQ-ing, for me personally I felt it most when EXUM's “Dark Kept Secret” lost out in 134, which I think partly was because I loved the song so much and wanted it to do well. However, I definitely wasn't in a great place at that point in 2021 anyway with a lot of things going on, so I think I was too emotionally invested here and that wasn't healthy, I ended up feeling pretty crushed by it.

I do however remember Pav did give it a 12 tho and that meant a lot more to me- introducing even just one person to a song that they love just as much as you is just as rewarding.

Want to apologize for not being able to vote, havent been online this week since I took a nasty fall and have been trying to recover and take care of myself.

Thanks to all that voted for "Burning My Bridges", has been my obsession this past year.
