CHART BATTLE REWIND

2004 time and our first three-way battle: Eric Prydz released his soundtrack to that iconic music video the same week Girls Aloud were aiming to score their sixth straight hit with Love Machine, a song they happily admit to hating at first. lol Green Day were also contenders with their first new music in 4 years, the politically charged American Idiot. Call On Me won the battle and went on to claim the top spot for 5 weeks(!), while Girls Aloud settled for a 4th (and 3rd consecutive) #2 hit. Green Day, while only placing at #3, scored a career best and it still remains their only top 3 hit.

But which is your number one? Vote above. teresa

I would be intrigued to know if there are any other examples of a top 3 like this where every song is a classic of their genre, and really, all three songs won in some way

Went with Green Day, not only my favourite but the one with the most staying power today. "Call On Me" was originally made by Thomas Bangalter and DJ Falcon but they wouldn't release it so MOS had Eric replicate it, it's not a good reflection of his artistry and even he doesn't like performing/talking about it. Don't care for "Love Machine"

Definitely American Idiot for me. Never particularly liked Love Machine (The Show is so much better imo) and always found Call On Me too repetitive.

'American Idiot', can't believe it was over 20 years ago and yet just as relevant today (sadly), and what an album it turned out to be.

A great top 3 here and all 2000s classics of their genres, American Idiot wins though.
