Monday at 15:192 days Not sure it'll go to number 1 but surely a new peak now shame under sad circumstances 😪
Monday at 15:362 days Oh god, that's very sad news ☹️Feels a bit like George all over again with the timing this should happen.
Monday at 15:392 days Cliff and Noddy must be holding their breaths that the new year arrives very quickly.Driving Home For Christmas is my fave Christmas song so let's send it to number one.
Monday at 15:422 days Such sad news re Chris Rea. Be great if the charts can honour him in some way this week and next.
Monday at 15:442 days 26 minutes ago, Sour Candy said:I don't think being the most popular Christmas song of recent decades is "a free pass".I would say it is: at this point 'Last Christmas' making the Top 40 year in, year out, is inevitable - and that's even with a hindrance. The fact it's given such favourable playlisting position over stuff that is fresh (Christmas songs, or otherwise) means that other songs don't get much of a look in. By continually counting the streams of everyone that's listening to these songs, purely because they happen to be at the top of a playlist, regardless of how many times those people have listened to it before, other songs may be blocked from media exposure (such as a Top 40 radio play) as it looks like noone cares about them, when more may well get a look in/playlisting if people get a chance to hear them. So yes, I consider it a free pass! This doesn't just apply to Christmas songs, it applys all through the year. Once a song is big, it almost always stays massive because nothing else can get the exposure it needs for playlist compilers etc to have faith in it...@Dircadirca has raised some interesting points! Though I'm convinced that a popular new song ('Birds Of A Feather') picking up so many scrobbles per listener (on average) vs half that many scrobbles on average for a much older song ('Mr Brightside') kinda highlights that a song in its prime could rack up a complete sale per person fairly quickly (if there were a cap) where the older ever-present song might not be able to combat the onslaught of new songs having a quick moment before dipping into relative neglegence. This is all just something that will probably bug my brain forever 🤣 Ultimately, it doesn't really matter - I think if that model worked in the way I believe it would, it would probably be the ideal model for chart fans, but it's never gonna happen so we shall all stay used to our artificially skewed ACR chart with our familiar classics keeping us company!
Monday at 15:452 days So sad to hear he was one of the greatestJosephine ,On the Beach ,Looking for the Summer and of course Driving Home for Christmas so many beautiful songs ❤️RIP Chris Rea
Monday at 15:512 days Very sad news about Chris, RIP. I wonder how high the song can go now? It's a shame it's one of my least favourite Christmas songs. Would have been nice to see a resurgence for the excellent 'The Road To Hell' but that seems wildly inappropriate both at this time of year and under the circumstances.
Monday at 15:532 days I do wonder how long this whole Christmas starts as soon as Mariah screams “it’s tiiiimmmmmeeeee” on 1st November will start to wear thing. It doesn’t feel that long ago since we packed up the Christmas songs and decorations from last years Christmas and then it suddenly rolled around again. It’s making not only charts feel stale, but the songs themselves. I’ve heard many people say they’re not listening to Christmas songs until December this year and I think that’s gonna start becoming more of a thing next year. What I will say regarding the whole Kylie/Amazon debate. Each one of the streams I gave to Kylie be it Amazon or YouTube, I actively pressed a button to listen to it. I can’t say the same for Last Christmas or the other Christmas songs this year. Funnily enough, I do actually think if there was able to have been a study pole on last weeks active listens, Kylie would probably come out on top.

Admittedly AIWFCIY is in the chart twice).
Monday at 16:022 days Very saddened by Chris’s death. He had a great career and one of the best festive songs that really uniquely sums up a specific Christmas tradition for a lot of people. Driving home just won’t be the same for me this year!😢 RIP

Monday at 16:502 days I would imagine if it’s close between #1 and #2 kylie fans will get downloading again. More remixes?
