There was a time I quite liked this but it’s not one I ever consider playing these days. At least she still has Play to come.

22 Verbalicious - Don't Play Nice

avg: 4.92

👑 Pop Royalty: 9 (Lee_J11), 8 (AllStarBySmashMouth)

Pop Flop: 2 (DaTilt, Paddington James, Julian_), 3 (ElectroBoy, Henessy Lake, vibe, RyanFM, Jade, Bror)

Verbalicious has entered the room but not for the most flattering of reasons as she picks up the wooden spoon, with a poor 4.92 average.

If you are unaware of her lore and thought those vocals sounded familiar then it's because she'd later go by Natalia Kills, though has since shape-shifted into most recent pseudonym Teddy Sinclair. Under Kills she became a bit of an internet gay fave, hopped on an LMFAO top 40 hit 'Champagne Showers', then was infamously fired as a judge on X Factor New Zealand in 2015, along with husband Willy Moon, after they berated a contestant.

Rewind a whole decade back to 2005 and she was launched as an 18-year-old pop-rap artist under the name Verbalicious, who scored a #11 U.K. chart placement with the spiky 'Don't Play Nice'. This was written by a team including Verbalicious herself and also Thomas Gustafsson, best known for writing a lot of songs for Eurovision, including none other than beloved winner 'Euphoria' by Loreen. 'Don't Play Nice' was later nominated for the Popjustice (RIP) £20 music prize but lost out to another song on this compilation, 'Wake Me Up' by Girls Aloud. That accolade may have slipped through her fingers but she'd have other shots at recognition later down the line, most notably becoming a Grammy nominee, due to co-writing Rihanna's 'Kiss It Better' under the Teddy Sinclair name.

'Don't Play Nice' has not only finished rock bottom, but with a lower average than the last placer from the first Pop Princesses rate, 'Ladies Night' by Atomic Kitten. Hers was 4.92 to the Kittens' 5.34. Some of our members were indeed "beggin' for this track to cease" as the likes of DaTilt, Paddington James and Julian_ gave Verbalicious a score of 2. However, this tune was hittin' some of you, particularly Lee_J11 who went against the grain with a score of 9.

I don't play nice, I am actually nice to the song. Oh my at appearing at highest scores for the first reveal. 😆

Omg how did I not realise these were the same people 🤣

I used to actually really like this song at the time but it didn’t age that well

Trash really.

I did love Natalia Kills though, I was probably one of the only people to buy both of her albums but I refused to support her in any capacity after the 2015 incident.

I never really paid too much attention to her music but I remember Free being featured on the Xbox racing game Blur that I played at the time. A bit of a trash bop. 🫢

I enjoyed DPN at the time but it was very throwaway and the video looked like it had the budget of a CBBC show!

‘Zombie’ has always been my fave Natalia Kills song though. What a banger. But yeah that X Factor situation was embarassing!

I didn’t realise she is responsible for having a writing credit on one of Rihanna’s best songs, ‘Kiss It Better’!

Also had NO IDEA that one of the guys responsible for DPN was behind my favourite song of all time cheeseblock

Talking of CBBC, before Verbalicious she was in a very poor BBC comedy which might as well have been for kids, All About Me with Jasper Carrott, Meera Syal and Nina Wadia. The Natalia lore never lets up.

Don't Play Nice is a very memorable song, but not in a good way. She was definitely better as Natalia Kills, until X Factor NZ. Actually, actually, actually, ACTUALLY, she deserves last.

I know she’s a total hideous cretin now but shame on you all for voting that iconic trashbop LAST frankie

No surprise at 'Don't Play Nice' going out first - I gave it 4.5 and that's mainly an ironic appreciation for the conviction in her performance of it - it's pretty naff.

I really liked Champagne Showers better than the other LMFAO songs at the time but her vocal was pitched up like Scooter so if you didn't know, it could be anyone singing it.

Correct song coming last, might possibly have passed for fun at the time but very naff listening to it now - will see if we get the correct winner again as well!
