Absolutely. 100% agree. On a similar note, who on earth is buying a Chris Brown album...?!

    I think it's entirely fair that this discussion has cropped up given the movie and subsequent chart revival, I just don't think we need to be reminded any time MJ is discussed that he's an alleged "no

Its hasnt charted before?

Well technically it did briefly chart at #62 in 2009 in the aftermath of MJ's passing along with many other of his past hits when the 3 song rule hadn't yet kicked in but it was never officially released in the UK during the Thriller era in the early 80s.

Are all physicals for Westlife counted in today's update or there are some to be added by the end of the week? I noticed last week there was a decent increase to most albums from Wednesday to Friday even for physical sellers.

Melanie C - Sweat (15,379) -> 19,483

Kneecap - FENIAN (17,237) -> 23,983

In general, is there a chance for Westlife? They have been comfortably ahead the whole week and it looks like they are gonna lose it the final day...

There was a chart battle last week and they were both throwing out new versions, signed editions etc daily hence the big changes.

Westlife will lose it to MJ now I think - however it’s been a pretty lazy release from Westlife considering they are in the UK, no signings etc., - I guess with their pre-orders they thought they had the #1 with ease and didn’t bank on a MJ resurgence.

I understand but I notice similar increases with Skindred on previous weeks etc... I am wondering if all physical sales are included already or there is a chance for westlife to stay there after all...

Michael Jackson's 'The Essential' sales in last week's Wednesday midweeks were 16,881, with final Friday sales being 29,453. 16,881 represents 74.47% of its sales that week.

18,446 today - that's a +9.27% increase compared to last Wednesday. If those sales were 74.47% of its overall sales this week, it would end up doing 32,183. I would assume 30k+ this week is a certainty.

With Westlife on 24,302, perhaps they'll need to sell another 8,000 copies to get to #1, if 32k ended up happening for MJ.

Monday & Wednesday sales:
Westlife - 25 - The Ultimate Collection (21,256) [20,092 physicals, 584 downloads, 580 streaming]
Westlife - 25 - The Ultimate Collection (24,302) [22,627 physicals, 677 downloads, 998 streaming]
(Two day increase: +2,535 physicals / +418 streaming / +93 downloads = 3,046 increase, compared to Michael Jackson increasing by 8,307).

I predict a final total of 27.5k for them, unless they can pull something out of the bag to encourage more physical/download sales. I have a feeling that Michael Jackson will be insurmountable though.

Shame…. They sold a decent amount of copies to have a well deserved #1…. One last question, how is it decided which album is getting all those MJ streams?? Pretty sure the essential is not the highest selling album of his this week.

'Human Nature' coming to be the 6th top 10 hit from Thriller!

and the third song called 'Human Nature' to make the top 10 following Gary Clail On-U Sound System in 1991 (#10) and of course Madonna in 1995 (#8)!

His past was allegations, nothing proven, not convicted!

the former was accused but cleared of charges and the second convicted. Maybe that makes a difference.

Allegedly it’s selected by the record label. I’m still not 100% convinced.

The alternative hypothesis is it’s the one that would chart highest if given the streams.

Yeah the majority of people I've spoken to don't believe MJ was like that and some believe he was subject to a smear campaign especially after seeing the stuff said about him in a certain set of files.

And all three Human Natures are certified bangers wub

Glad that Westlife won't end up at #1.

We are still bitter about the infamous Forever chart battle!

Human Nature is such a gorgeous song!
