With Frankie, Bryan and Wets, people actually went out and bought these songs. Shame Olivia didn’t include Rein Me In as a bonus track on her album because if she did, it would’ve diluted the sales for the song itselfRecords are meant to be brokenIs it a dodgy record when athletes break long standing records because "how they train nowadays is different" ?

6 hours ago6 hr The state of this thread. It's like being trapped in a merry go round no one can get off.

With Frankie, Bryan and Wets, people actually went out and bought these songs. People actually went out and bought it I’m sorry but in my opinion that’s ridiculous - the world has moved on, Our Price, Virgin, Zavvi and co have closed and everywhere stopped selling physical singles decades ago. There is literally nowhere on the high street that people could ‘go out and buy’ the single even if they wished as nowhere sells them (Including HMV).Also claiming other artists got it with ‘effort’ is a stretch too - people went to the high street and bought it along with everything else they wanted then the internet came along, there was a point when Boots and WHS were selling singles along with all the main supermarkets so people didn’t even need to make a special visit to a record shop. The early charts when Frankie achieved his record weren’t exactly bullet proof with their reporting -“The UK charts in 1953 and 1954 were informal and prone to errors, relying on manual phone calls and rough estimates rather than absolute data. Key issues included small sample sizes, tied rankings, and tracking both sides of a single record interchangeably.”
6 hours ago6 hr Streaming is the one that’s killing the music stores and physical media. By banning streaming, it will encourage people to start using physical media again. If streaming was banned, I’d survive like I did in the 90s and 00s Edited 6 hours ago6 hr by Hadji

We just need to accept that streaming and physical co exists and both are valid forms of chart data!

Don’t know if like me, they’re getting fed up with streaming but I’m seeing CDs being glamorised all over social medias lately

At least Dai Dai is popular all over the world whereas Rein Me In is only popular here, Ireland and AustraliaI have to say, as much as I couldn’t care less about Rein Me In, this is one thing I do like about its success. I kinda miss how UK used to have its own hits, now everything feels so globalised and the same songs are big hits everywhere in the world, bar maybe US & country songs.I kinda think it’s nice that our longest running #1 of all time is from two homegrown talents.

6 hours ago6 hr Shakira's pulled ahead a fair bit since Monday!! Not a done deal yet but that's a way more promising update than I expected.

I'm not even a massive fan of the song but it's pretty cool they are on the cusp of breaking a 70 year record! 😯
5 hours ago5 hr Sam now pushing for downloads on his Instagram, fingers crossed he can make a comeback but that increase from Shakira doesn't bode well for him

Surely she is pushing 50 by now?
5 hours ago5 hr Our usually reliable source on twitter was saying yesterday:"At the moment, fewer than 2,000 sales separate the two records." the gap today is 666.
