Women have a vice-like grip on the chart, with Sienna Spiro continuing at the summit, in a top six comprising entirely of tracks by female solo artists for only the third time in chart history.

Spiro’s Great Expectation racks up a third consecutive week at No.1, albeit with consumption off 1.16% week-on-week at 26,900 units (337 digital downloads and 26,563 sales-equivalent streams). That is the lowest level for a No.1 single since Viva La Vida topped the list for Coldplay on consumption of 23,212 copies in June 2008, some 953 weeks ago.

Its nearest challenger is still former incumbent Choosin’ Texas, No.2 for the third time (24,534 sales) for Ella Langley, while Stella Lefty’s debut hit, Boston, No.4 for the last four weeks, climbs to a new peak at No.3 (24,228 sales).

The highest of three new entries to the Top 10, Nicole Kidman is in a hurry for Slovakian singer Adéla, surging 15-4 (19,188 sales) a fortnight after debuting at No.50. It is her first Top 10 single, and overshadows her debut hit, Ain’t In LA, which returns to its peak (13-12, 16,595 sales).

With Dua Lipa’s viral revival Training Season holding at No.5 (19,148 sales) and Olivia Rodrigo’s The Cure repeating at No.6 (18,672 sales), our solo sororal sextet is complete.

The first time the top six comprised only of tracks by female solo artists was on August 18, 2023, when Billie Eilish led the way with Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, Peggy Gou and two songs from Olivia Rodrigo completing the sextet. A week later, we had the only instance before this week of different female solo artists in each of the top six positions, with Lipa on top followed by Eilish, Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Swift and Gou.

It is very unlikely this week’s top six will fill the top six positions a week hence – there are female reinforcements in the form of Patient Zero, Pink Clouding, Cleveland and Babylon – the new additions to Taylor Swift’s The Life Of A Showgirl – but also male contenders in the form of Jamie Miller, whose first hit Babydoll has catapulted 67-46-24-8, increasing consumption 72.22% week-on-week to 18,072 units as it makes its Top 10 debut, and which will undoubtedly make further gains next week; and Sombr, whose My Body Isn’t Ready surges 16-10 (16,755 sales) to become his fifth Top 10 hit.

Completing the Top 10: Rein Me In (7-7, 18,492 sales) by Sam Fender & Olivia Dean and Stop The Wedding! (9-9, 17,344 sales) by Ashe. Handicapped by ACR on the main chart, Rein Me In is the most-consumed track for the 14th week in a row, and 23rd week in total, with unadjusted consumption of 36,763 units.

New ACR casualty Movin’ To The Sun by Hugel, Imael Angel & Ultra Naté tumbles 3-16 (13,539 sales), while there are more organic Top 10 departures for Die On This Hill (10-11, 16,738 sales) by Sienna Spiro and Man I Need (8-13, 16,571 sales) by Olivia Dean.

There was only one new entry to the Top 75 last week, and they are still at a premium with four making the grade this time around.

Bad Taste (No.73, 5,824 sales), is the introductory hit single for Freya Skye, whose EP, Stardust, reached No.35 on the album chart in May. A 16-year-old singer/songwriter from Buckinghamshire, Skye achieved the rare feat – for a new British artist – of making her US singles chart debut before her UK debut, reaching No.88 on the Hot 100 there with Silent Treatment earlier this year. Bad Taste’s tally includes 1,844 sales on coloured 7-inch vinyl, enough for it to top the physical formats chart.

The rest: Obsessica (80-70, 6,070 sales), the second hit for Malcom Todd; Joseph (No.71, 6,029 sales) the first hit for veteran Las Vegas metalcore band Falling In Reverse, featuring Corey Taylor from Slipknot and Serj Tankian of System Of A Down; and Last Thing You Need (No.74, 5,774 sales), the 12th hit for country singer Morgan Wallen, from the upcoming video game soundtrack, Grand Theft Auto VI.

Another week with new peaks for Noah Kahan, whose Orbiter (22-18, 13,176 sales) and Willing And Able (35-21, 11,376 sales) continue to climb. Both tracks are from his current album, The Great Divide. Orbiter was helped by the release of a 12-inch picture disc, which contributed 1,472 units to its tally.

There are also new peaks for: Pure (39-28, 9,592 sales) by Sienna Spiro, Good Girl (42-29, 9,487 sales) by Cloonee & Prospa feat. Tristan Henry and Hey Everybody (Back In The Dance) (56-49, 7,576 sales) by Kolter.

Overall singles consumption is up 0.64% week-on-week to 29,635,664 units, 2.89% below same week 2025 sales of 30,517,213 units. Paid-for sales are up 0.70% week-on-week at 247,533, 16.79% below same week 2025 sales of 297,472.

Leadership of the album chart changes hands for the 13th week in a row, and Beabadoobee lands the 10th new No.1 album of the year by a female solo artist, as her fourth release, Pylon, makes an electrifying debut atop the chart, on consumption of 21,065 units (9,241 CDs, 6,801 vinyl albums, 2,109 cassettes, 355 digital downloads and 2,559 sales-equivalent streams).

It is the second No.1 in a row for the 26-year-old singer/songwriter – real name Beatrice Laus – who also topped with 2024 set, This Is How Tomorrow Moves, on lower first week consumption of 17,202 units. She previously reached No.8 with 2020 debut, Fake It Flowers, and No.4 with 2022 follow-up, Beatopia. This Is How Tomorrow Moves became her biggest-selling album thus far only last week, and now raises its cumulative consumption to 94,207 units, just ahead of Beatopia (93,964 units), with Fake It Flowers on 41,287 units.

A Londoner from the age of three, Beabadoobee was born in Iloilo in the Philippines, and is the only Filipino-born artist to top the album chart. She wrote all 14 songs on Pylon, 11 of them with co-writers – a contrast to That’s How Tomorrow Moves, where she alone wrote all 14 tracks. She is one of only two female soloists to have an entirely self-written No.1 album in the 2020s – Taylor Swift was the first, with her Taylor’s Version of Speak Now in 2023.

His massive legacy as drummer for Queen notwithstanding, Roger Taylor has nevertheless assembled an impressive body of solo work, and racks up his second solo Top 10 album with his seventh solo set, Violence Insane In A Beautiful World (No.6, 7,645 sales). The follow-up to his acclaimed 2021 set, Outsider, which reached No.3, it yet again proves that the sprightly 77-year-old is so much more than a drummer – he also sings, plays multiple guitars and keyboards on the album, and wrote all of the songs himself, aside from a cover of John Lennon’s Jealous Guy.

No.1 last week, Here Because Of Hope slumps to No.82 (2,140 sales) for Ezra Collective, while last week’s No.6, Anatomy Of A Brief Romance by Bloc Party, and last week’s No.8, Bloodletting by Røry, exit the Top 200 on consumption of 426 units and 297 units, respectively.

Miley Cyrus reached the Top 10 with her last seven studio albums but falls short with 10th studio album Bass Persuades (No.13, 5,623 sales), her 12th album chart entry in all.

The Shel Talmy Recordings is a selection of pre-fame 1965 recordings made by David Bowie with UK-based American producer Shel Talmy, then responsible for hits by The Kinks, The Who and more. Mostly previously unreleased, and variously credited to Davie Jones, Davie Jones & The Lower Third and The Mannish Boys, it provides Bowie, who died in 2016, with his 78th charted album, debuting at No.17 (4,777 sales).

Apples For Isaac (No.19, 4,581 sales), is the 13th studio album for Liverpool alt-rock legends Echo & The Bunnymen in their illustrious 48-year history, their first since 2014, and their highest-charting since 1997. Reportedly completed in 2021, it featured founding (and only current) members 67-year-old singer Ian McCulloch, who also wrote the songs, and 68-year-old guitarist Will Sergeant. It is their 16th Top 75, and 11th Top 40 album.

Also new to the Top 75: Ride Lonesome (No.15, 5,160 sales), the 15th studio album and 11th chart entry for Beck; Keep Cheap (No.23, 3,924 sales), the introductory album by Liverpool indie quartet The Cheap Thrills; Angel (No.44, 2,805 sales), the fourth album and first chart entry for Philadelphian singer/songwriter Lizzy McAlpine, who turned 27 on Monday (September 21).

Other new entries: Cursom Perficio (No.46, 2,788 sales), the 12th studio album, and ninth chart entry for veteran American thrash metal quintet Anthrax, arriving a decade after its predecessor, For All Kings, reached No.21; A Beautiful World To Lose (No.47, 2,730 sales), the second album by Manchester indie band Corella, whose 2024 debut, Once Upon A Weekend, reached No.142; Paddywhackery (No.50, 2,675 sales), the third album and second chart entry for Irish folk group, The Mary Wallopers; Ox (No.59, 2,505 sales), the fifth album and second chart entry for London alt-rock quartet Palace; and Estrus (No.63, 2,446 sales), the sixth album and fourth chart entry for Swedish singer/songwriter Tove Lo. There are 13 debuts in total, the highest tally of the year.

The Kpop Demon Hunters soundtrack is No.1 on the compilation chart for the third week in a row, and 58th week in total, on consumption of 2,895 units (253 Yoto cards, 17 CDs, 16 vinyl albums. 30 digital downloads and 2,579 sales-equivalent streams). It is the first time the lowest consumption for a No.1 for 70 weeks, and the lowest weekly tally of Kpop Demon Hunters’ 66-week chart career.

Overall album sales are up 3.17% week-on-week to 2,390,984 units, 5.78% below same week 2025 sales of 2,537,548. Physical product accounts for 292,178 sales, 12.22% of the total.

Interesting that there's not any mention of the restocking/physical release for "Training Season" this week. I'm wondering whether Dua's team reported that to the OCC or not.

Looks like the Top 3 and 'Die On This Hill' all increased this week, 'the cure' decreased and 'Training Season' is down very slightly.

I think 36,763 is the lowest for an SCR #1 since 2021.

There was a Thursday update which she was at 59k vs 60k for the #1 and her team released more album versions to push. Will be interesting to see where she lands. A #1 in the US would be her first in 13 years!

A pity that Carly's sales weren't revealed, I would have been interested to see them. Presumably about 2000 copies?

I didn't realise Orbiter had vinyls out, either way glad to see that's climbed into the top 20 and the album also back in the top 10. Great Divide and both the Olivia albums have had some legs on them this year.

Also great that Sombr has made the top 10 at last, one of my favourites of his along with 12 to 12.
