Young kids discovering it for the first time the same way kids did when it first came out I imagine  It’s one of those 8 year old birthday party staple songs too
Here comes 'sex sells' back in with a bang then if music videos are going to count with any heavy weighting

I don't think this went away did it? Granted - it's not quite as big now as when Eric Prydz “Call On Me” was on sale as a DVD-single in 2004.

It's more the meme culture that could be exploited IMO, like Big Shaq for example.

Well at #44 this week on video streaming is a new entry for 6:30 by Geko ft NSG which I looked up out of curiosity as I hadn't heard that song before and it does have that kind of video a bit in parts sadly

Yeah I could see songs like 'Freaky Friday' and 'Man's Not Hot' unfortunately becoming more common.

Hopefully pop artists will release more unique videos which are a talking point as well to help boost sales too.

Why the hell are that many people watching crazy frog in 2018 tho
Personally the El Chombo 'Dame Tu Cosita' video reminded me of Crazy Frog's existence and I would imagine others saying the same, but that still doesn't explain its resurgence last year!

Also worth keeping in mind that Billboard has included video streams for 5 years already, so idk how many artists/labels are suddenly going to start putting more effort in their videos now when there's already been an incentive to do so...it obviously makes sense though and certainly for British artists, the success of 'New Rules' alone speaks volumes.

I love that video views are being added and the changes to premium/free listeners.

The only thing I dislike about the official video rule (although I’m totally for it and understand the reason it’s in place) is when a big performance would take people away from viewing the official video, I’m sure there are better examples but like when Adele sung ‘Someone Like You’ at The Brits and Kelly Clarkson performed ‘Piece By Piece’ on American Idol - if I’m correct then those sales would be lost in the UK if they were on ITVs etc., official channel rather than the record companies? Same for Eurovision entries etc.,

I hope this is not the case because I would absolutely love to see Eurovision songs get boosted on the chart.

'Axel F' does amazing numbers on YouTube. Worldwide, it's the 26th most viewed music video of 2018 so far (and the 8th highest English-language song, if you consider it to be in English):

It was #173 of 2016 and #48 of 2017, so it's only growing.

Surprised to see 'Despacito' that low on this list tbh!

I am sure it would be allowed if the live performance was on a respected official media youtube channel like ITV or the official Eurovision channel.

If those rules were introduced in 2012, just imagine how long “Gangnam Style” would’ve been #1 for

Where the music used is identical to a released version, the label will usually "monetise" the audio so yes. Unofficial remixes probably not.

I wonder if they've worded it badly and all monetised audio of chart-registered songs will be counted, regardless of who uploaded it.

To the last bit, I hope so. I'm not opposed to Youtube being added, but I don't want only half of the streams to be counted and some songs to be disadvantaged unfairly because fan-made lyric video gets a lot of the views.

And also, I made a remix of Disclosure - White Noise and put it on Youtube years ago. I made it completely from scratch (although I copied some melodies from it, I didn't sample any part of the original audio, not even the vocals) and after about a week it got taken down for copyright infringement.

I don't know if their record label manually scrawled through Youtube to find every amateur remix and flag them for copyright violations, or if the "audio detect" tools that Youtube have are THAT good. However, I think either way these unofficial remixes could likely be monetised. People are money hungry anyway, the record labels would probably be losing millions in total if they aren't monetising the fan-made/unofficial videos, so I would suspect they are being monetised.

I am sure with videos like that, they would put them on a media outlet that would contribute to the chart, especially for award show performances like with Someone Like You, where the audio was officially released as a download.

A video for XXXTentacion's SAD has just been released posthumously. Well timed, it will stick around in the charts for longer now

Let's hope most people watch it tonight whilst it still doesn't count towards the chart.

Last time I checked it was already on 2 mil views. I do imagine the buzz for it will last for quite a few days though, since the video is X at his own funeral fighting his dead body

Interesting to see what genres benefit from this. Personally I hope, through including channels such as Selected, which danG mentioned, it will boost dance music which isn't doing so well in the charts these days. Although I think the big pop acts will mostly benefit from the inclusion of video streaming, as their music videos seem to be most hyped prior to release. UK urban music which is already big at the minute will be boosted by the GRM Daily effect. Big hits in other parts of the world that usually wouldn't be hits in the UK such as the big Latin hits or even some of the European dance hits should also be a bit more likely to become UK hits.

clearly indie will benefit the least :/ and it was already the genre benefitting the least from audio streaming
