It is DIRE. It's not even a Christmas song!

How on earth do you come to that conclusion? Of course it is.

On the subject of Christmas I really hope Coldplay make the Top 40 with the iconic ‘Christmas Lights’ this year - it’s doing slightly better than the same point last year.
Interestingly the chart show on Friday 27th will be hosted by a guy and gal from student radio. What a chance for them to get a foot in the door.

From OCC.

The Official Chart on BBC Radio 1 will have two special guest presenters filling in for Scott Mills on Friday December 27.

While Scott enjoys a well-deserved festive break, winners from the Student Radio Awards will cover for him and count down the UK's only Official rundown of the biggest 40 songs of the week, kicking off at 4pm.

Hannah Sackville-Bryant and Joel Mitchell, both aged 21, will host one of British radio's most iconic broadcasts.

So R1 aren't doing the EOY chart this year then?

I have no idea. Oh and another student duo will do the first look of the new chart on Sunday 29th.

To quote myself from nearly a month ago:

The idea of Mariah being taken off ACR has always been little more than a stan fantasy, it theoretically might still happen but I highly doubt it if it hasn't already.

The only way it'd happen would be on the off chance someone on her team cared enough about a 25 year old song in the UK to specifically push for it (which I highly doubt is the case) and even then it might still not have happened if the OCC rightfully declared that that's missing the point of the rule. The only time the '3+ year old song now being actively promoted' clause has been invoked was for 'Good As Hell' which is very clearly a different situation.

Mariah has got her #1 on the US chart, that's very likely the only one she and anyone around her cares about.

Fair play to him like JB did for NHS. Shame Ed wouldn’t do it for George

George died after the Christmas #1 was announced...

Why is James Blunt the current third favourite (12/1)
Only Adele can stop this now. But I’m not sure even she could clear 85k in two days!

It only uses Christmas as a framing device. Nothing about the song is about it, and it was originally called Last Easter.

So why do we never hear it in July then? :P

Pretty sure they missed it last year so already set a precedent for not doing it.

I hope they do something still, especially as it is a decade end as well, but not holding my breath

Change it to Last Summer and take out the bells they added to try and pretend it's a Christmas song and you would.

You sound a right numpty. The title is called Last Christmas and in the song; George says, Happy Christmas. Stop trying to convince yourself just because you don't like the song. You sound like a Labour voter.

Nope, they definitely did a countdown last year

Erm i agree that he is a numpty but his argument is actually correct

I get the argument that 'Last Christmas' is a break-up song that happens to be set at Christmas, but I don't think that takes away from the fact it is a Christmas song. There's clearly a theme of Christmas going on, it sounds Christmassy, it was released specifically for the Christmas market and it's traditionally played at Christmas.

If 'Last Christmas' isn't a Christmas song then you could surely argue the same for 'Fairytale of New York'. That's a song that just so happens to be set at Christmas.

Fairytale is about spending a Chrisrmss together and references it a lot throughout the song. You literally just need to replace ONE word in the chorus of Last Xmas and that's it. Done. They nearly released it for the Easter market. It is completely contrived and absolutrly does not deserve its status as a Christmas song.

You don't typically give gifts at Easter though and it's quite clear it's based on Christmas themes and makes references to it throughout even if it's not directly specified. I do agree that Christmas is a 'framing device' as you put it, but as a result, as well as the sound and marketing of the song, that makes it indeed a Christmas song. It may not be specifically about Christmas in the way other Christmas songs are but it still is one.
