These are the kinds of people that look for any excuse to behave like this. Whether it’s a football match or an opportunity to defend statues that they’ve likely taken no notice of before the last week. It really highlights the racism problem in the UK and that actually the BLM protests were justified.

Exactly what I was thinking. White, straight men really have some BIG problems. Just when you look at the videos, the anger they portray is just unreal. And for what? Because you are against equality and are a racist? These guys are and will always be on the wrong side of history. I am very curious to see Boris' reaction to this (although who am I kidding? He's probably loving it as he co-created this mess).

The scenes today are just... vile. I don't actually get the purpose of this scum crowd (let's not pretend they are protesters). Were they planning on causing a conflict with the BLM protesters before the latter moved their protests forward by a day? The scum crowd seem to be attacking the police but for what? The BLM movement had obvious issues with the police (not condoning abuse towards the police on either side) but what's the scum's reasons? :wacko: I just feel so angry on behalf of the police officers at the scene there having to put up with that amount of abuse from ****ing skidmarks of our society. There's definitely a big element of opportunism and using any excuse to act like an animal while hiding behind the facade of a protest. This is enough justification for the BLM protests happening in the first place! And we thought this country was divided during Brexit... this is a whole new level. :mellow: The conservative government is doing the situation no favours at all either. Boris' stance on the matter is as clear as day at this point. -_-

OK I get the right to protest, and some people obviously feel passionately about statues (and of course if they were are marching against that attempted burning of a flag at the war memorial that has a bit more legitimacy still) but these people were risking the R Rate rising and us having to go back into lockdown again over things that yes they may have found offensive but things that are not life and death issues. I don't fully agree with any non socially distanced protests at the moment but at least BLM is a life and death issue.

It isn't lost on me that these kind of people protesting are the same every time. Straight, white, angry men, who probably don't have a lot going on in their lives. They have been taught they can only express themselves through anger and hatred. The change has to start in classrooms and communities.

Before last week I'd had always assumed that racism in Britain, whilst certainly present, was fairly small in comparison to America. But just a read through any social media platform and looking at the protest today proves that not at all to be the case. Just read the replies to any Gary Lineker tweet on the situation and it highlights the vast number of vile racists still in this country.

The number of tweets and posts Ive seen telling people to leave if the don't like how life is here or go back home?! Possibly one of the most vile things you can say to a POC knowing the history of that phrase

Racism has been clear as a huge problem in the UK to me since Brexit. I believe there was plenty of repressed racism around before that but Brexit has given them all permission to come out. This is why I said I’m uncomfortable with things like celebrating VE Day because there is a general superiority complex across the UK that disgusts me.

From everything I’ve seen these protests are incomparably violent compared with the BLM ones. I wonder if the Scum and Mail on Shitday will be as on the ball with their reporting :)

I think Britain has always been a country with a lot of racism, just like every other country in Europe. While it IS different compared to the US, or at least it shows in a different way, it has always been there and mostly in a more subtle way. After Brexit it seems like people are, however, more okay to show this and think it's normal to be racist. With the help of a racist government obviously.
