The OCC says,

"Ed Sheeran & Elton John are heading straight for Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart with their brand new single, Merry Christmas.

With more than double the chart sales of its closest competition – reigning Number 1, Easy On Me by Adele – the pair are sleigh-riding into success on the Official Chart: First Look. If the song can hold on, it will mark Ed Sheeran’s 12th total Number 1 single, and third this year, and Elton John’s 9th and second this year."

next ep is on New Year's Day

Oh always thought it was a Xmas day special every year!

If ed and Elton are double adele's sales they should hold the number 1.

Interested to see the sales of the two tracks, Adele doing only around 450k daily so will be on around 60k!

I'm assuming 'Bad Habits' by Ed Sheeran (or 'Shivers' if it is below 'Bad Habits') now falls foul of the "three tracks" rule and has been removed from the charts. For chart purposes 'Merry Christmas' should count as one of Ed's three chart eligible tracks. Chart rules state that where a release is an equal collaboration between two or more artists the primary artist for the 3 track rule is the artist of the releasing label. The track has been released on Asylum which is Ed's label.

Yeah I think you’re right. Will still be interesting to see the sales tomorrow.

I have a question to ask - even though Mariah is ahead of Wham on both Spotify and Amazon Music, how are Wham ahead of her on the Sunday Chart Update?
Adding on to the answers above, I'm guessing free streams vs. premium streams play a part too since they're weighted differently.

I wonder if youtube views also play a part? I can imagine more people watching the Mariah video than Wham! but I don't know how significant an effect that would have on the sales.

YouTube views do play a part.

I guess the several million views Ed/Elton got on YouTube probably helped it, the videos really. Good'

yes, Mariah is ahead of Wham onYT, you can check the daily chart here:

totally expected #1 this week, once December arrives it doesn't matter if a song underperforms on Spotify, what matters is Amazon

thats where the big figures come in December and Ed/EJ are ahead of Adele on Amazon

look at last week'c chart, Mariah wouldn't even had been top 3 on Spotify alone and it only accounted for like 30% of her total sales

when normally during the year Spotify accounts for 50% of the single streams, sometimes even 60%

and it will be like this every December until the OCC realises they're basing the Dec charts on what a robot decides to play, not people

s choices ;D

But it’s the same with anyone who just starts a playlist on Spotify too surely?

Its not

Cos Alexa doesnt play a list from start to finish

When River got to @1 Alexa was playing:

River-Mariah-Wham-Pogues-River again-Buble-Wizzard-River again

So a big bias in favour of their exclusive

I don't know this year but 2 years ago with River it was definitely like that, tried many times
Ed & Elton have the #1 spot booked until January so you'll probably have to wait another year :kink:

I think another week then Ladbaby will knock them off on 24th.

Anyone know or have any ideas why Leona’s One More Sleep is underperforming this year? :(
