An exercise I was recently interested in embarking on is which of the current mix of active participants actually maintain a national thread still for their respective country. The results showed that there are quite a few participants who have not updated their national threads in quite a few years. :o So, based solely on the 85 separate participants from 2023 so far, here are some stats;

In the order of most recently updated to oldest (as at the time of this opening post);

As far as I can tell, the following active participants do not yet have a national thread;

Abeltesfayeton

Bronzil

Freedonia

Jandre

Kingdom of Horanius

Land of Jack

Neliönoir

N-Lazone

Scotland 2

Singerpurear

Sombrero

Spod

Suedeonia

So what is the future for national threads as a whole? Are they still a good way to collate your own entry history and build hype and support for your latest entries, or is the concept a little out of date with current trends?

As fellow BJSC member Séyetana recently pointed out;

Some people use it for recording their entry history, sometimes it's just a space where you can post your entries at the start of each new contest. And some people go all out in roleplay and include maps and demographic information and other nonsense like that.

I personally always like to include statistics and trends in my national thread for Zanmatony, and I've recently started to follow in Danæviia's footsteps by recording my voting history in the thread too for archiving purposes. I feel like it helps looking back on what I enjoyed the most from any given contest, and which of my own entries appealed to certain audiences. I like the creative element to the national thread too, being able to design a flag or other aspects of the country to make it stand out as unique. All of this adds to the whole BJSC experience for me, and I wouldn't want to lose it.

I've added a poll to this thread as I am quite interested to learn what the general population of the Buzzverse think on the subject, and if they may have other ideas or suggestions on how things could be improved in the future perhaps.

I would like to conclude with a suggestion that I think could be implemented if the national threads continue which would be to house all of the national threads, past and historic, in a separate "sub-forum" of the BuzzJack Song Contest forum (just like the Spin-off's are now). But it would only be for convenience and to keep the main forum a bit tidier perhaps. ;)

I used to post my points given and received in each contest but now I just post my entry and some information about the artist and the song. I keep my full list of entries updated on the opening post.

I look at other countries' threads as it's a useful way to find out more about their artist if I've never heard of them. It's a bit frustrating if they just post a youtube video without any information.

I would keep the national threads where they are. If they are hidden away somewhere else, they won't be viewed as much.

Yes, I use mine for two purposes still. To share some information each month about my entry, and to keep a record of all of my entries and their results (I update the opening post each month).
0 points to Zanmatony for not including Why So Sirius thread!!
Jokes aside, expect more roleplay between Sovarasma and Why So Sirius ;)

I still update my national thread OP even if I don't always update it by post per entry. It's a good stat record and if there's something you really want to share that's special about the artist or entry, it's great to do it when I get inspiration.

And no, the national threads should be kept in the main forum. They represent the nations that take part and it's not like they're taking up any space, we'd just have past contest threads otherwise.

Not me perfectly timing my national thread update to make the top of the list :magic:

I'm definitely not the most attentive with my national thread but do make sure all of my entries are on there for completeness. I do like reading other national threads even if I rarely comment in them, and I agree they should remain where they're at and not in a subforum.

BJSC is very „pick your own adventure“. You can put in and get out of it as much as you want and that is part of why we are here 15 years later still doing this.

I have a national thread but I can be a little lax at times at updating it. It is a great place for me to be able to quickly see at a glance all of my entries and relive some past bangers.

I’m not going to ask admin for a new subforum, it would suck the life out of the concept of the NTs and would make the main forum look stale. We only have a handful of contest threads each month so there’s no need to „declutter“ our Main Forum. We have a subforum to split the main contest and all of its associated stuff, like NTs and registration and odds and voting etc, from the equivalents for the spin offs to make it a little easier to keep track when we have two simultaneous events

In fact, one could say they're perfect for keeping the forum filled with active threads.

I always use mine to post my entries, fill the description with what I think is interesting and perhaps funny commentary about the entry, and often, because I often pick an artist first and then listen to a lot of their songs, recommending other songs by the same artist that I might have chosen to send instead.

Sometimes I update the first post with an entry record, and sometimes I use the thread for a countdown. And to be clear, that quoted post of mine in the OP is making a dig at myself too, I have tons of demographic information and history (and many stats that I've long since given up on keeping track of) tucked away at the beginning of the thread that is way more than needs to be there but at one point I decided to roleplay a bit, and that can be fun.

I haven't added my voting statistics for each contest since 146 because I couldn't find the final spreadsheet in that contest and I refuse to wade through the entire results thread.

(Once again if anyone can track this down I'd be most grateful).

I like to keep updating mine even though most of the times I just talk to myself.

I think I'm due to having a new thread but I can't be bothered so I just keep using the same old one.

This thread has pushed me to update the stats in my thread, which were about 2 years out of date. So that's something.
I've become pretty lazy with updating mine but try and post in there before each contest is over. My OP lists all of my main and spin-off entries with their positions, then I also have some stats in there, plus a playlist of all my entries and the recap video I made for my 75th contest. The entry list and stats are due an update oops... soon x
