Also I'm not sure what point is being made by bringing critical success into this conversation at all but for what it's worth this is his most critically acclaimed album to date (it has a 73 on Metacritic which is still nothing to write home about but it's great by Ed Sheeran's standards, his previous high was 67 each for his first two albums and he dipped into the 50s with his last two) so mission accomplished?

Who knew this forum was so full of Ed stans? I don’t remember Adele getting this same level of defence when she was accused of underperforming with 30 (which did a whole lot better than -)

Actually this is the first time I noticed so much defense usually the proption of haters is much higher :P

Oh yh defo agree that compilations and 'Best of shouldn't be in the chart and shouldn't be able to add more than 1 song from a previous album.

Why doesn't the OCC add these rules as they seem like common sense to me? Is there something I'm missing out on

They won’t until it/a greatest hits ends up hogging the album #1 for weeks on end like the greatest showman did. So far none of the big streaming hit sets have got to number one and turnover at the top is high, so no immediate issue from a marketing perspective.

That’s the thing, same with Adele, to say it flopped because you compare it to other albums is absolute silliness when it’s #1 and fastest selling album of a year within days

I think a lot of people get some kind of innate thrill every time they say the word "flop", it's definitely one of those words that has almost lost its meaning at times with how often people use/misuse it.

It’s the toxic Twitter culture - flop, outsold, tanked, when will your faves etc.,

People need to look up the meaning of flop before applying it to every artist and release

Essentially if a record charts anywhere then its not a flop, maybe an underperformer compared to prior records but not a flop.

I'm not quite sure that's the right definition either, if Ed's comeback single charted at #99 for one week and then fell out of the chart, I would unequivocally consider that a flop.

Ed Sheeran has a further 3 songs starred out of the top 40 due to the 3 song rule which was brought in because of.......Ed Sheeran

31 - Life Goes On

32 - Salt Water

37 - End Of Youth

Curtains is a fantastic song, another radio will be eating up in a few weeks. Hopefully it will climb as the weeks go on.
Fine with 'People' going to ACR now tbh as it has peaked ultimately and now finally starting to tire of it. Ugh at George still not on ACR though <_<
Kunt getting his usual suspicious midweek boost after adding all versions for 40p on BandCamp (Last count they had released 33 variations)

Will be nice to see The Kunts charting to remind us in future of the history of this week.

Nice to see Rudimental and Jazzy entering!

When was the last time Ed did not have the #1 single during album release week?
