Moves Like Jagger is the top track of that time period, not even close, a total classic. JLS just played and I enjoyed it, bops along nicely, good production, nothing earth-shaking, but fun enough. A top 20 track in my personal charts of the time, so that sounds about right. Don't Go I dont remember at all, doesnt go anywhere, it's not awful but it's not really got a hook I can get into and is my least fave of the tracks so far. So what did I think at the time? Number 66 for a 2 week run. I can agree with myself there!

JLS had INSANE potential on X-Factor. I always imagined them releasing stuff like Fill Me In, U Remind Me and all the old classics that Craig David and Usher released in their early years. The fact they left the show to release crap like The Club Is Alive and She Makes Me Wanna is just such a waste of talent.

The video having Aston topless was also so random too.

Absolutely, or stuff like Finesse by Bruno Mars, as their name was a pun on New jack swing. I had the same high hopes for them based on X Factor and some of the great soul numbers they performed that they didn't deliver on at all with the watered down generic dance stuff.

Don't Go I guess stood out in a time of dance anthems by being a slow song.

There is some new tech house version of it that made the Beatport chart recently.

I was never a fan of JLS and after hearing 'She Makes Me Wanna', it just reinforces my belief. The song has aged badly and you can tell it's from 2011. I can barely make out their vocals from the synths. A 6 year old could have written better lyrics.

I didn't appreciate that Wretch 32 song at the time but I've grown to like it more now. British rap is an acquired taste I feel but this holds up well amongst most of it.

The Wretch 32 song isn’t half bad actually.

Glad Wretch got his number 1, one of the greatest pioneers of grime and UK rap, definitely deserved.

Definitely the weakest of the top 3 that week, not even close. Agree with Rich in finding that such a bore of a #1. 'Unorthodox' was decent though.

I don't really like that Wretch 32 track, 'Traktor' was awesome though!

I quite like "Don't Go" - it would be some places higher for me, but not too much.

Two very non-essential #1s just gone - as mentioned in the earlier reviews, JLS were let down by their lack of good songs, and this was just another trend chaser, "Afreeka" shout out and all. Curious about what happened to Dev after she seemed to be so prominent for the 9 months or so leading up to this.

'Don't Go' is passable but so plodding in comparison to Wretch 32's earlier hits.

The next entry is on it's way and it's another X Factor act.

27 – When We Collide – Matt Cardle

The first #1 of 2011 When We Collide by Matt Cardle was also the final #1 of 2010. Winning the 2010 series on The X Factor, Matt Cardle managed to stay atop the UK Singles Chart for the first two weeks of 2011 with his winners single When We Collide, which was a cover of the Biffy Clyro song (which had a different name) Many Of Horror. For the two weeks this was at #1 in January the highest new entries were Lights On by Katy B ft Ms Dynamite (January 1) at #4 and Hello by Martin Solveig & Dragonette at #73. As a fun bit of trivia this was the first of two songs with the word ‘Collide’ in the title to reach the top 5 in 2011.

I started off really enjoying this song and initially had it placed a lot higher than 27^th place as I quite enjoyed it, but as I progressed through multiple listen throughs of all the #1’s for 2011 it started to blend into the background as it felt more and more stock standard for an X Factors winners single.

It's OK enough as far as X-Factor coronation singles go, but I'd never choose to listen to it and the original is superior.

I do quite like “Don’t Go” - especially the “yeah-yeah-yeah” riff and baseline. Definitely the weakest of that week’s top 3 though.

“She Makes Me Wanna” is meh but at least catchy - still their 2nd best of a weak bunch of chart toppers I’d say.

“Chase The Sun” is up with the best download era boyband singles for sure though I actually enjoy “All Time Low” more.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve got a soft spot for Matt Cardle’s stuff. I also think this is the pick of all the winners singles

Matt Cardle’s debut album released in this year and it was brilliant. A shame people slept on it to an extent.

As I mentioned in the previous thread, I did buy this, partly for the b-sides. It was definitely one of the better X Factor winner singles and I'd rank it a few places higher (think it was about 20th for me in 2010, will see where it ends up in 2011).

Oops finally caught up with this!

Couldn’t agree more with putting that XF dirge at the bottom. It was a really entertaining season tbf with a lot of drama and talent. The judges shake up was actually a welcome change for me as the Cheryl & Simon show was verging on overkill. Then of course Little Mix’s underdog journey to securing the first group win in 8 series was a true moment to witness as a long-term viewer by that point. The charity single is of course trash though.

Not fussed with any of the other songs revealed so far either. All quite naff. 🫢

Matt Cardle was the last X Factor winner that I actually liked. When We Collide is a decent cover.
