  1. Up to forty entrants. I quite fancy ‘winning a day’ soon so I may do one of those react to my post polls that Silas did last time around to decide between one big final and semis 🤭 Press 👍 for semis React ❤️ for one big final Go for me to just choose people to eliminate without semis Finally 😮 to make Silas and Cody fist fight it out to gain entry to the final
  2. Disillusioned people on benefits believing everything they read on Facebook are the biggest danger to this country. Rather than realise that it’s the government who has been f***ing them over for years, they will just parrot from their echo chamber about immigrants. I do think Reform’s bungling council efforts will harm them at a future GE by the time it comes, if it happened now I do think they would probably win sadly and I wouldn’t rule it out in the future which is just terrifying to even think about. I’d rather my tax went on someone who came here to escape danger and try to have a better life than bankroll someone’s children because they cba to get a job if I’m being frank. And it’s all “we’re just concerned mothers” at these idiotic racist protests but crickets when a white person does anything bad. The same people spouting the most horrid racist shite will spend half their day reading conspiracies about how Lucy Letby is innocent

  4. No, you are being fed such hate and fear from your media diet. Ask yourself why the people you get your media from are making you focus on the plight of people who are different from you, rather than water company mismanagement, rising prices and low median wages (among others), and would like you to consider a group of snake oil salesmen whose management style is outwardly horrendous, divisive and controlling. Change can most certainly be bad and what is on offer from Reform looks fucking abysmal.
  5. But they're all in your most recent personal chart top 20...!!
  6. Cmon KDH defeat those evil Now compilations 🙌
  7. Just a quick notification to say that after discussions with Philip on whether it would be an imposition on our data storage needs, we've increased the Private Message storage of most members to 500 (up from 200), and for all the various Moderators to 2000 (up from 1000)*. Mods should also find restrictions on PMing multiple people have been lifted. Please ensure to continue to delete old PMs to save microlitres of water. Thank you for your attention to this matter. *if I've missed anyone because you have an unusual group let me know, I think I did every group.
  8. Justice for seven minute melody-free vocals over a repetitive unchanging dance beat
  9. But will Lorraine herself be on Lorraine tomorrow! (lol)
  10. I'm going to focus on the central theme here because there's no need to respond to most of this poorly-researched and error-ridden gish gallop. That central theme is: Why is immigration so high as a pressing issue and is it a sensible issue to be so high? It's not because it affects anyone's wellbeing, because unless you're in direct competition for jobs with immigrants (far less likely than anyone would have you believe, as immigrants are inherently at a disadvantage due to Right To Work), it doesn't. In fact it's inherently illogical to focus on as an issue in comparison to the economy or any number of public services which all do directly affect most voters. Yet it has been at every election for some time a significant one. Why? It's not quite as simple as 'politicians use it as a distraction', but it's so easy to do for unscrupulous ones because many of the population are primed against migrants based on outlier crime stories they imagine are a common reality, or some vague sentiments about losing 'their country'. I live in a very diverse part of the country and I love that because of that I have access to a good portion of the whole world relatively near me. If there were concerns about conservative culture coming in with migrants (potentially but likely overblown), or migrant crime (definitely overblown), I'd sympathise somewhat, but ultimately I'm against anti-migrant policies not only because they're cruel but because they are a severe distraction from focusing on economic injustice and actually fixing the economic anxieties that trouble a large number of the people who claim immigration as their primary concern. They want Reform to win the next election, come in with a set of mass deportations et al, and if they worked (a huge if), the problems that plague them would still be there and they wouldn't feel satisfied. They'd enable hardline governments who would enact cruelty and it wouldn't make them satisfied. People need to be mad about the cost of living, income inequality, landlords and corporations sucking up excess wealth far more than they should ever be worried about their local area having a few people born in different places in it. This is why I say they are in a bubble and need to snap out of it, because their reality is shaped by the content they perceive and instinctual fears of the other - it's not reality. This is only affecting right-leaning people consuming copious amounts of political content and that may be a large number of pensioners and a good proportion of economically anxious people but it's quite far from a majority. call me elitist, pretentious and out of touch all you want, it only fuels me further
  11. Given how long people in the real world continue to listen to established favourites rather than following the chart geek fantasy of moving onto new releases every week, I'd say they are very much in touch with reality. 'back to friends' and 'undressed' are still more popular than '12 to 12'.
  12. As much as I would love to see Ice Cream smash, Diana Vickers could be #1 on new music Friday and today’s top hits and still wouldn’t chart in 2025. She’ll be lucky if she makes top 100 of the sales only charts.
  13. Well I played it to Mr D* on the way home today and he said "Really, THAT won by so much?!!!" so it's a good job he doesn't participate on the forum 😆
  14. The only thing propping up the labour market in the UK is immigration, the birth rate fell to 1.44 last year (lowest on record, since 1938) and it's likely to continue to fall. There are schools in the local area that are having to close because of rapidly falling pupil numbers. Therefore, we have to face the reality that the population of the UK is rapidly aging, a serious issue that Japan has been battling with since 1990 and has yet to resolve (despite finally relaxing its attitude to allow immigration). There is a structual ageing of our population, with all its associated problems, effectively baked in for at least the next century. The protests against immigration are generally of the order of around 100 or so - they do not in any way represent the opinion of the wider public, and are massively dwarfed by the protests against the ongoing genocide in Gaza. However, the billionaire backed press, and recently regrettably the BBC, have decided it is in their interest to amplify the voices of wives of Conservative councillors who spend their spare time calling for the public to burn down hotels full of refugees. This country has always had a mostly positive history with welcoming immigrants, from Jewish immigrants in the 1930s, the post-war rebuilding from the Commonwealth in the 50s and 60s and even recently the Ukranian women and children in 2022. An Estonian women in the town here built a business from scratch that has generated significant improvement to the area and brings in people from all around the local area - I think there are generally more positive cases that are, in general, largely overlooked. On the OP question, I personally think that Reform have a very small chance of forming a government at the next GE, the polling has always overestimated their share of the vote and when it comes to a national election I think people are minded to retreat to the safety of what they know and trust, especially against unknowns that could be as damaging and potentially destructive as having Farage as PM. Our FPTP system actually works against any ascendant new party, so whilst they could conceivably rack up north of 20% that may only translate into 50 or 60 seats as long as there is collaboration with the more progressive voices and my god Starmer is going to make that incredibly difficult.. Finally - wrt benefits. A significant number of those receiving benefits are in work. Where you have a point is housing benefit, a huge sum of money handed over from us to wealthy landlords which is a huge waste and should be reduced with more council housing built and reduced rents offered instead of forcing everyone into an already saturated rental market.
  15. Semis but the countries with q streaks have their streak deducted from their score 🌚 Only chaos in FLJ
  16. Recently I decided it'd be a good idea to listen to all of the songs I'd recorded as a Personal Chart #1, now that there are over 400 of them. It gave me the idea that I could turn it into a thread and write a bit about them, especially with this forum existing, given I started recording it towards the start of the period it covers. So after some time of thinking about doing it, here we are. I'll revisit them one-by-one, rate them in the current day and rank each years entries at the end of the year. I'll try and remember how I felt about the song/band at the time, look at what they prevented from reaching the top and any glaring errors I made. How often I'll post, or how long I'll pretend I'll make any significant inroads to it... who knows? But if I only commit to this being something I do when I've time and interest, then I might actually get further than I anticipate! The charts were something I got into in about 1997 when I was just 8, listening to the top 40 every Sunday I could, demanding it be put on in the car if we were driving anywhere, and checking it all on Ceefax on the Monday morning. Typically, I'd write down two versions of this - the actual chart, and one in my order of preference. This was sort of a personal chart although you'd get runs of 1-OUT given it would only be the UK top 40 I'd do it with. It was like I was made to look back in 2025 and realise I'd spent 60% of my life as a member of internet forums predominantly centred around music and the charts... In the early 2000s I did change the way I recorded so it would be my favourite songs regardless of whether they were in the UK chart, but I still made it close to official as songs only entered in release week, which lasted until the beginning of 2007. Not all of those stolen blank school textbooks survived however, so 2003 is the furthest back the archive starts...
  17. Calling for people to be burned alive whether aloud or on the internet is unacceptable. She knew exactly what she was doing and the lack of empathy for others with those hateful words was sickening. My colleague used to work with the woman in question and said she was a nasty piece of work in person as well so the parasocial ‘free speech’ hero worshipping is quite jarring to see.
  18. Like I said, low wage pay (to the point that many Brits do not wish to do that work) and the sacrifice of everything on the altar of capitalism is what leads you to that situation where people are being hired from abroad because they accept lower wages for harder, less fulfilling work. You don't solve that with harsh rhetoric against immigrants, because it also involves burning everything else down, equal rights, cementing low wages for everyone, while you're at it. Besides, the changes that have been made by both the Sunak and Starmer administrations have been largely cutting down on visa-sponsoring and dependents where not necessary, there was a spike just after Covid where people who couldn't return before did, and they have cut down on people abusing masters degrees to get unrelated visas. Governments are doing things, but you don't want them to be doing the flashy stuff, as that is invariably needlessly cruel (recall Home Office vans from Theresa May's time as Home Sec). Though the care industry specifically will need and will use immigrants for a long time to come, where English is not even a required skill, that is just how it is with our age pyramid.
  19. PLATINUM & MULTI-PLATINUM Fleetwood Mac - Tango In The Night (9x) What an amazing album from Fleetwood Mac great memories Isn’t It Midnight my favorite

  25. I'd imagine those five remaining Maroon 5 fans already know they're ordering flavourless slop. Could've at least been arsed to serve them a full dish....
  26. A big thank you to all THIRTY of you that submitted entries for the 17th edition of PFSC! Are you ready for some huge pop choruses? I know I am. 27. My spicy hot take is that BJSC is better with around about 45-50 participants. Your booked and blessed business fish doesn't need the protracted torture of a 32 song semi final when half of it is going to be seven minute melody-free vocals over a repetitive unchanging dance beat.
  28. Non British born people need to stop getting instant access to NHS, benefits etc it needs to stop. The left and those who live in a bubble can continue to be blind but the rest od the demographic is waking up, and what farage has announced today with mass deportations and British born people first is absolutely right. Equality and rights have gone to extreme, time for a change. And i will not be argued or told im racist again by anyone on here. Wake up.
  29. Spotify playlist (I haven't cross checked the versions with the Youtube links so please shout if any edits/mixes need switching):
  30. Yeah I just checked and it only peaked at No.8 in my personal chart too at the time and they pretty much always made No.1 or No.2! I liked it - don't get me wrong - but something didn't fully click. I think you're right - it wasn't a long hot summer, it was a meandering and depressing gloomy summer, and the song didn't fit what was happening! Maybe it was the right song at the wrong time? Also if you look at what else was charting then, it was up against a sad summer soundtrack of James Blunt, Daniel Powter, Mariah Carey etc, pop-rock from Kelly Clarkson and lots of indie stuff. Was the appetite there at the time for a song that - to me at the time - felt like b-tier Girls Aloud? Obviously it had a reappraisal on its own merits outside of the context of summer 2005, and it deserved that, but at the time it really didn't feel like it fit somehow, and I can't put my finger on why that is. Whereas Biology a few months later felt so fresh and like it had a real vision, and a great video in comparison. Pop really came back with force anyway that autumn so it was in good company - there was loads of great British pop stuff around from Sugababes, Liberty X, Simon Webbe, Friday Hill, Charlotte Church, Rachel Stevens etc!
  31. The immense confusion I felt when i read the title as 'hairstyle' 😶‍🌫️
  32. They are not doing well on the maths this week. 6 to 5 is up 1 not down 1 !!
  33. I think context is important, she incited extreme violence at a time of racial unrest. At the time some of my non-white colleagues were so terrified about these riots that they had to plan alternate routes to get home. She knew exactly what she was doing. It isn’t simply a case of a harmless little tweet and delete, the damage was done, she knowingly incited violence that hundreds of thousands of eyes saw. You’re responsible for what you put out there. Also, a lot of headlines were just running with that part, she engaged in countless other examples of racism on social media and on WhatsApp too. She even said she’d lie about “a mental health card” to get out of it, even if she did plead guilty in the end. There’s a precedent for this too, two men were jailed in the 2011 riots for inciting hatred on Facebook. So not just a cruel move from her but a silly one. The justice system isn't perfect but I personally don’t have sympathy for someone with a pattern of racist behaviour calling for migrants to be burned alive at a time of racial unrest. So unbelievably cruel and dangerous no matter what your views are. The softening of language towards her in the media or online as ‘caregiver’ or ‘mother’ is eyeroll worthy. Anyway, will leave this here and agree to disagree in case it’s getting too off topic from the Tories, shame their leader is defending this hate speech indeed.
  34. Doja Cat's 'Jealous Type' has debuted at #18 on Spotify. Here's hoping it holds up well 🤞💖
  35. Shame that A Little More is not as good, chart wise, compared to Azizam (bless you) or Sapphire but it's my pick for best track on Play so far.
  36. Haven't been able to listen much in recent weeks. Tune in finally and I'm still listening to messy And beautiful things

  39. If Addy wanted to share his list with me then I'd be happy to double check whether there are any clashes, I don't typically enter Nuggets so it wouldn't be a problem. I'd leave it up to the mods here to decide whether they felt it would affect anything in the veto process.
  40. We have officially secured the funding and decided to fly all the way to FLJ after (involuntarily) sitting out last contest that would’ve been a 20 minute Sbahn ride for us to attend x Despite the rumors, I can confirm I am NOT sending the new (subpar) LIZ/SOPHIE song. I will be going a slightly cheaper route via a Spanish language song by a recycled male artist whose only entry was a DNQ a decade ago.
  41. In bennyboone's post just before yours I thought "that guy with longer hair looks like a Joseph guy..." so thanks for confirming my suspicions xx
  42. We are being overflooded with violent videos in movies and on tv for years and years, people used to think metal music and video games make children evil and violent. What an absolutely random conclusion to make taking one single occurrence of something horrible happening on the internet and extrapolating it to push a one-sided agenda that barely stretches the surface of the real issues happening in real world. Online world is a clear reflection of real life and it’s so funny and sad to see how people take one and discard the other completely as if those things aren’t interconnected. A more correct way to approach this would be to see what actually happened, not blame a streaming service. As if it’s normal for 18+ year olds to watch something like this happening online. Girls are sexualised from wayyy before 18 ALL OVER THE WORLD, yet we have to protect the childrens from dirty and unbecoming of an girl information about sexual health, menstruation and queerness online. The moment they turn 18, they are all sluts and on their own, especially if they make a bunch of money on OnlyFans selling instagram photos. Oh and BAN ONLYFANS!!1 Sorry for the rant but it is so infuriating. I see this whole ‘safety act’ as nothing but a way to make sex work more dangerous again (of course it relates only indirectly as a long term consequence) , limit girls’/women education (and therefore rights), eliminate trans people and make certain companies and people even richer. The latter is probably the most important thing and the rest is just collateral because very few people in power actively think of women when making any decisions like that.
  43. Emma makes a (virtual) cameo on The Voice Australia:
  44. K-Pop Demon Hunters for number 1 this coming weekend please 😍😍
  45. There’s a statement out now from the employee and the scenario is literally as short as this. The trans employee thought the mother and daughter looked a bit lost and in need of help, they walked over to ask if they needed any help, woman said no, trans person walked away. https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1mtwx8t/ms_trans_employee/
