How is it that people love this song so much indefinitely that they will stream, stream and restream it multiple times every day for the next 60 days in their 10s of 1000s across the country to send it to Number 1 here and practicallyevery other territory on earth? Does anyone actually know anyone in the real world who says this is their favourite song and they will never tire of it or are we all such sheep?

I don’t think many people are obsessed with it at all - what you’ve got instead is an absolutely enormous volume of people listening to it casually and occasionally, and that’s enough.

Most of the "build up to Christmas" memes I see are about Mariah defrosting (used to be Bublé but it's progressed to Mariah) or something to do with that song, it's undoubtedly synonymous with the festive season in many countries (as is Mariah herself) and it's easy to see why, especially among a younger generation who have grown up with it each year. I get why people can be bored of it, there are some festive favourites I can't really deal with nowadays (Slade is one), but for me personally nothing can match the sheer joy of All I Want for Christmas Is You!

And when Mariah says it's time, it's TIME *.*

Will Beatles reach 75,000 by Friday?
So nearly all of them then... :P

Apart from Wham!, Mariah, Band Aid, Shaky and Cliff

My Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want To Turn Into You vinyl *finally* arrived today, hoping she appears in the mids somewhere

One of my albums of the year ❤️

Apart from Wham!, Mariah, Band Aid, Shaky and Cliff

Given how many Christmas songs exist then Bre is still pretty much correct.

People are talking about Mariah but Wham are much closer to her this year at this stage and will no.doubt overtake and ifs a better record. Its not happy which is good news for the misanthropes out there!

Well done to The Fab Four. Can see the Blue and Red re-issues being 1 and 2 in a fortnight's time. Blue always beats Red!

I don't agree with all the extra tracks though and in between the others, not even at the end. Now And Then last track on Blue album.

I mean it’s 6 weeks max for Wham and Mariah and the others don’t join until later in the month which is usually week ending 2/12. It’s only December that the chart is full of them!

It used to be one of the most interesting times of the chart year, now I don't bother listening and could probably write down the top 10 a year in advance and be pretty much correct.

I'd fully support a separate backwater chart for all songs that are say >3 years old, and then some (credible, specific) rules for when something is reset back onto the main chart, for example Running Up That Hill, or songs listened to when the singer dies.

In other news - fantastic for the Beatles, that should be a done deal then

It's only December like that isn't a whole ass month lol. Even if I LOVED some of the songs, and I did/do, it's not like a huge change every year, if anything it just takes over more every year.

Also to dismiss valid opinions by just saying "humbugs" is so rude? Not really the same topic of discussion but not all of us enjoy having Christmas rammed down our throats - for some it's a really lonely and isolating time and having the same Christmas songs year after year thrusted upon us doesn't help.

I don’t think many people are obsessed with it at all - what you’ve got instead is an absolutely enormous volume of people listening to it casually and occasionally, and that’s enough.

Plus I think the fact that every shop / bar etc in the country suddenly starts playing them on repeat must contribute an awful lot as they'll all be streaming playlists these days

I hope Prada can dodge DCL-3 if it means that it will go #1 next week by doing so
Is the beatles selling this much on physicals?
Good numbers for The Beatles! With missing data included I assume they're on ~42-45k? Their streaming seems to have stabilised, so they should be good for 60-70k by the end of the week I think? Perhaps more so 80k+ if they get media coverage (them being #1 in the midweeks may get them some extra attention?). I wonder if their vinyls will come back in stock? I assume they make up a good chunk of their sales if a lot of them were made.

Without LadBaby songs it's the same top 2 (Mariah and Wham) every year. :(

Sadly Beatles didn't release the last single on Christmas week.

Wow wasn’t expecting Oasis at #1.

Massively hope they can hang on, the Masterplan is a cracker.
