Didn’t realise Katy was nearly top 50 with The One That Got Away now!

Prob her best song for me.

Also great to see ‘You Rock My World’ joining the rest of the Jacko back catelog - my favourite track by him. I have the cd single from its release. Beaten to the top spot by Kylie Can’t Get You Out of My Head, which was a huge shock at the time.

Spotify adds 'Verified' badge to distinguish human acts f...

The music streaming platform will review criteria such as artists' live dates and social media presence.

Hmm I was at a conference not that long ago where they were saying the tech world believes the future for people in the arts world was to pay for a premium badge to prove they are real - and it would be like AI is seen as the supermarket basic range whilst artists would pay to be viewed as an authentic and better brand. This feels a little bit like that path. If they can verify real artists then they in theory can just instead remove AI slop from their platform.

It made me feel a bit sick and I got quite annoyed with them. It’s just tech people inventing money yet again.

Yeah I've heard nothing but "AI is the future and you must embrace it" from tech people and it's awful having to sit through that stuff. I'm glad Spotify is taking action, just need something like that on iTunes where AI domination is a real problem!

It's utterly baffling that we have got to a point where talented artists have to pay money to Spotify, just to prove they actually exist.

It’s essentially the Facebook model of verification, ie just making more money. I’m not sure people definitely have to pay on Spotify at the moment but it does seem as though the world is heading that way.

"Bring Your Love" debuts at #28 on UK Spotify with 224,846 streams!

New peak for the original version of "Midnight Sun" at #27, with the Girls Trip version with PP debuting at #106. Combined, both versions are #5!

Do artists actually have to pay money to Spotify for the verification though? None of the articles mention that.

That's not what Dandy has said! :P He's just talked about how when this article popped up today, he just mentioned the meeting and how it looks like this may be a more common thing in the very near future and the tech people will just profit off of that instead of getting rid of the AI-slop directly. Not that Spotify WAS doing this (yet).

The Chemical Brothers debuting at #160 on Spotify, it's happening *.* (edit: well not a debut but the first time it's charted that the Spotify Charts website tracks - peaked at #67 on its original release per Kworb).

Alex Warren has the highest new entry at #21 and Zara/Shakira also new at #107 (65 streams behind the new version of 'Midnight Sun').

'Billie Jean' up to #8 - I guess the MJ songs will continue to rise over the weekend as more people see the film.

All new peaks and new entries on Spotify:

#8 Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (+3)

#19 Michael Jackson - Beat It (+2)

#21 Alex Warren - FINE PLACE TO DIE (NEW)

#27 Zara Larsson - Midnight Sun (+7)

#107 Zara Larsson & Shakira - Eurosummer (Girl's Trip) (NEW)
