i would be highly against including new music friday playlists though since that’s like the basis of new music plus they change their stuff every week anyway

Yeah, I definitely agree with this - streaming is obviously going to be most people’s way of finding entries these days so I wouldn’t want to penalise anything appearing on New Music Friday anywhere in the world, but Rich is right in noticing that it’s notable certain playlists breed consistent success and seem to be a consistent source of entries here.

And I am most definitely guilty of that since I found it in December 2023 and have taken MANY an entry from there 😂

I also wouldn't include any New Music Friday playlists for the record, as it's so transient with full turnover each week, only the very popular curated genre playlists where songs sit on them for entire contest cycles.

Btw, I have used OBSESSED before too, or at least tried to with Fleeting... 😂

I'd like to be excluded from the playlist narrative as I found 'PQC' via YouTube algorithm kink

I did see 'Love Love (Love Love)' on New Music Friday though so checked it out on the basis I already knew I was sending a different song by her

Me too kink

I'm an Apple Music girlie and the playlists there are infamously awful x

ooh I considered I PUT MY HANDS THRU IT briefly a few contests ago 🤔 PQC is the better of the two but I’m not surprised daine was tried anyway… from DNQ to veto is something

First time I have heard this Daine song - it sounds good, but nothing I would immediately chart (which might change after more than one listen).

In general I find it good to include too well-known relatively steady playlists (no NMF) in the vetoing system.

i have quite literally nothing else to offer

Sounds like Buzzjack Mountain most months when they offer promise of a return and deliver nothing

It sometimes puzzles me what is vetoed AND what isn't, so when a song isn't too obvious to be vetoed (to me), I send it in (to often get vetoed LOL).

For instance, I was quite surprised Arlo Parks and hemlocke springs got vetoed, and pleasantly surprised Norma Jean Martine's version of Maneater didn't.

Well I'm sure if the framework is being reviewed (which it sounds like it is), then perhaps we could draw from examples of specific entries that 'should' have been vetoed racking up surprisingly few points and rework the framework so that these entries meet the threshold. Not that I'm advocating for a stricter veto as it could of course work the other way (songs that rack up lots of veto points without being deemed veto-worthy), and nor do I have an opinion about the veto-ability of any of those artists/songs. But even if the framework is refined, it will always require discretion.

But if you're confused by what does and doesn't get vetoed then I'd probably look at the veto framework as a first port of call, even if it is not perfect, subject to opinion etc.

I personally think you should always try and send whatever you have in mind, because you never know!!!

If you think there’s a chance it could get vetoed, just have a backup ready in case. But don’t talk yourself out of sending something you genuinely love before giving it a chance!!!

Norma is the most surprising pass for me recently for sure.

She had been entered a few times before recently to some success, plus the song sampled not just an iconic No.1 but Maneater also came 2nd in BJSC and aren’t big points attached to sampling big BJSC hits too?

Maybe it still got under 25 though but it’s just such a recognisable sample that it almost sold the song all by itself (I thought it was good and voted for it as I love that melody!)

Oops yes we did. I've updated the opening post. We are at 62 pending a reconfirmation and assuming that Jonjo is participating - right now you are @Tafty but without wanting to reopen the debate of several pages ago, please PM me if I am mistaken!

This provisionally means that FARC autoqualifies.
