BJSC CLXXVI - Bestätigung (Confirmation)
29 pointsProbably 1BF but I’d be open to an old school contest with a smaller final of 32 and 15 Qs per semi. But I think the format rules make everything under 50 1BF by default. BJSC folks, heart react for semis and thumbs up for one big final! EDIT - There is no difference in how long both options take as 1BFs have a longer voting period29 points

I quite fancy ‘winning a day’ soon so I may do one of those react to my post polls that Silas did last time around to decide between one big final and semis 🤭 Press 👍 for semis React ❤️ for one big final Go for me to just choose people to eliminate without semis Finally 😮 to make Silas and Cody fist fight it out to gain entry to the final21 points

12 pointsMassive congratulatons to @dandy* An absolutely STORMING victory. I think the margain of the win should go some way to explain why I thought this might be a good contest to test out an alternative vote reveal on, FLJ took the reins early and just galloped away. So we decided to flip the script on the reveal to keep the interest going and try to somewhat conceal the margain of victory by not including a scoreboard along the way Thanks to all of you who joined us in Morpeth Cove this month, it was a pleasure to have all 47 of you with us. We hope you have enjoyed BJSC 176, enjoyed a slightly different final reveal, and also a big massive thank you to all who enjoyed our hosts entry this month! Bit different from Rd'Á this month and nice to see us in some different countries votes as well. Thanks and Goodnight! This has been a SNÁ|1 production12 points

This happens EVERY tme there’s a big new telease. You have all been here long enough to notice patterns in new releases and how they debut high then fall around a similar percent the following day/continue “decreasing” on Sundays too (Monday’s update). In rare circumstances will you find a ‘driver’s license’ or ‘APT’ where they actually increase their streams the entire/most of the week. Even then they don’t debut at number 1/top 5… Every time there’s a big release you all have the same conversations over and over and over again. It’s boring and whenever anyone points it out that it’s a decent hold/expected drop, there’ll be someone trying to downplay it in one way or another. None of you can let even the first weekends go by without making these silly comparisons. It just feels like you’re all racing against each other so you can be the first to say “told you so!!!!” It’s just wash, rinse and repeat at this point. It’s boring.10 points

9 pointsDEAD 😵 OMG thank you everyone, so pleased that Infohazard resonated with so many of you <3 Not gonna lie, I very nearly didn’t even enter this contest because I’d not done so for a couple and had a feeling that I’d fallen out of love with it a little… but I decided to persevere and I’m now so glad I did - not just because Ninajarichi won for us, but because I genuinely loved all of the songs in my votes - I added so many to my playlist this contest, it feels like it was meant to be and the contest and I just really clicked if that makes sense? Particularly happy to see Kath in second there, a win and my 18 in second spot is as good as it can get <3 (Oh and how rude of me, forgot to say a huge thank you to Phil for hosting… you did a great job 👏)9 points- Canae react to anything

8 pointsDisillusioned people on benefits believing everything they read on Facebook are the biggest danger to this country. Rather than realise that it’s the government who has been f***ing them over for years, they will just parrot from their echo chamber about immigrants. I do think Reform’s bungling council efforts will harm them at a future GE by the time it comes, if it happened now I do think they would probably win sadly and I wouldn’t rule it out in the future which is just terrifying to even think about. I’d rather my tax went on someone who came here to escape danger and try to have a better life than bankroll someone’s children because they cba to get a job if I’m being frank. And it’s all “we’re just concerned mothers” at these idiotic racist protests but crickets when a white person does anything bad. Ask yourself why the people you get your media from are making you focus on the plight of people who are different from you, rather than water company mismanagement, rising prices and low median wages (among others), and would like you to consider a group of snake oil salesmen whose management style is outwardly horrendous, divisive and controlling. In the sprawling digital landscape of pop music fandoms, BuzzJack stands out as a peculiar microcosm—part fan forum, part critical think tank, part pop culture battleground. Known for its elaborate chart discussions, Eurovision obsession, and intense debates over musical artistry, BuzzJack reveals a fascinating tension at the heart of contemporary pop discourse: a pronounced bias toward female pop stars and, in parallel, a thinly veiled dismissiveness toward certain male artists who don't fit the forum's aesthetic or emotional expectations. One of the most glaring recent examples of this bias is the forum’s treatment of Alex Warren’s heartfelt ballad, Ordinary, which was met not with thoughtful engagement, but with disinterest, mockery, and even outright disdain. To understand this phenomenon, one must first unpack BuzzJack’s identity. Founded in 2003, BuzzJack initially grew around UK Singles Chart predictions but gradually evolved into a wider community for pop culture lovers, particularly those with a taste for mainstream and electronic pop. Over time, its user base developed an archetype of the “ideal pop artist”—a figure often female, emotionally vulnerable yet visually glamorous, sexually autonomous yet polished, flamboyant yet emotionally grounded. The resulting environment is one that elevates figures like Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Charli XCX, Ava Max, and especially Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue to near-mythic status. There’s a pattern in the type of female artist BuzzJack prefers. She is often perceived as either camp or cathartic—an emblem of emotional release, queer empowerment, and theatricality. This “diva worship” culture is deeply rooted in LGBTQ+ pop fandoms, which dominate BuzzJack’s demographic. The aesthetic is loud, synthetic, high-stakes. Melodrama is a virtue. Sincerity is tolerated only when it’s dramatic. Subtlety, especially from a male artist, is seen as a risk—and often not a welcomed one. Enter Alex Warren and his 2023 single Ordinary. A slow-burning piano ballad about romantic insecurity, Ordinary is rooted in lyrical vulnerability and minimalistic production. The song tells a story many can relate to—the quiet dread of feeling forgettable in the eyes of someone we love. Warren’s delivery is raw, unfiltered, and unpretentious. There’s no beat drop, no synth climax, no auto-tuned belt. It’s not designed for TikTok virality, nor does it come packaged in glitter or queer-coded camp. It is, in essence, the anti-BuzzJack song. Yet what’s striking is not just that Ordinary was disliked. It’s that it was not permitted into the emotional space of the forum. It didn’t receive the luxury of being critiqued on musical terms. Instead, it was preemptively dismissed—called “bland,” “whiny,” or “basic”—without meaningful engagement. That reaction speaks volumes not just about Ordinary itself, but about the implicit expectations BuzzJack has of its music, and of the artists who make it. Part of this rejection is gendered. BuzzJack’s community, in its quest for the theatrical and extraordinary, often relegates male emotional expression to a narrow bandwidth. Male singers must either be genre-bending enigmas like Troye Sivan or The Weeknd—embraced for their sensuality, queerness, or edge—or they must possess the vocal gravitas and legacy appeal of Sam Smith or Lewis Capaldi. Otherwise, they’re seen as filler, chart clutter, or worse, straight mediocrity. Alex Warren—a straight, white, TikTok-native male artist without the camp flair or subversive edge—falls squarely into the category BuzzJack finds unworthy of serious attention. This bias isn’t necessarily conscious. Rather, it’s systemic, shaped by years of forum culture where certain sounds and personas were rewarded and others quietly pushed aside. It’s reinforced by the “New Music Friday” threads where members rush to crown their queens of the week, and by the relentless ranking and re-ranking of female discographies in sprawling rate threads. Even the annual BuzzJack Song Contest—ostensibly a meritocratic celebration of taste—tends to skew female-heavy in its winners and finalists. Songs by male artists are often treated as novelty entries or guilty pleasures rather than contenders for genuine emotional resonance. In this landscape, Ordinary feels like a sacrificial lamb. Its very title almost invites critique. Ordinary? BuzzJack does not want ordinary. BuzzJack wants era-defining. BuzzJack wants iconic. BuzzJack wants ferocity, not fragility. And yet, Ordinary offers something that few BuzzJack anthems do: intimacy. It strips away the gloss and lets discomfort take center stage. Its power lies in its restraint. But that very restraint—its refusal to shout, to sparkle, to flex—renders it invisible on a platform that equates sonic volume with emotional impact. It’s also worth exploring the influence of artist origin. Alex Warren, a figure birthed in the algorithmic chaos of TikTok, carries the stigma of being “not a real musician” in the eyes of certain music purists. BuzzJack, despite its love for pop, holds tightly to standards of authenticity—just not in the traditional rockist sense. Authenticity on BuzzJack means emotional commitment, fan-service, reinvention, and a narrative arc that feels earned. A TikTok star crossing over into music must prove themselves far more than a pop girl launching a debut single with an eye-catching cover and a thumping chorus. The forum’s reaction to Ordinary also reveals an intriguing discomfort with minimalism. In a world of maximalist production—where even ballads come drenched in cinematic strings or sweeping choruses—Warren’s choice to hold back, to linger in silence, feels alien. It defies the expected structure of BuzzJack-approved ballads, like Adele’s Someone Like You or Beyoncé’s Sandcastles, both of which explode with catharsis. Ordinary, in contrast, sits with the ache. And BuzzJack doesn’t sit still well. It scrolls. It ranks. It craves the next hit of pop adrenaline. The tragedy here is not simply that Ordinary was dismissed. It’s that BuzzJack, a forum ostensibly created to dissect and celebrate music, failed to practice its core value: listening. True listening requires one to silence personal bias, genre expectations, and aesthetic preferences long enough to let the music speak on its own terms. In the case of Ordinary, that didn’t happen. But there is a deeper irony. In its own quiet way, Ordinary is a protest song. Not a political one, but an artistic protest against the idea that music must perform for us. It doesn’t beg for a replay. It doesn’t pander to algorithms or dance floors. It simply exists, like a diary entry never meant to go viral. And perhaps, one day, BuzzJack might be ready to receive it not with an eye-roll but with curiosity. Perhaps when the glitter fades and the BPMs drop, the forum will realize that there is courage in vulnerability—and power in being, well, ordinary. Until then, Ordinary will remain a song out of sync with its cultural gatekeepers, a reminder that taste-making spaces, even democratic ones like forums, are not free from prejudice. They are mirrors of their own mythology, curators of a canon that excludes as much as it celebrates. And in that exclusion lies the most telling truth of all.7 points- BJSC CLXXVI - The Results
6 points...actually I'll spare the wait because unless something went wildly wrong with the points totals for the top 2 that is not only beating but demolishing the all time record win margin! The 148 point margin beats the old record by 15 points (Salt Ashes' 'Save It' won by 133 in BJSC 84), and even more remarkably in percentage terms it's a margin of 63.79% compared to the old record being Eva Simons' 'Silly Boy' all the way back in BJSC 19 which won by a comparatively minuscule 48.89%...! I'm literally right here so cut the attitude (and I'm a site admin so I can call out rudeness when I see it, it's part of the job - if you don't like it, you don't have to be here) It's not a sweeping generalisation, it's a consensus. Buzzjack has a history of appreciating, above all else, female pop songs. Male singer/songwriter ballads are typically unpopular, but that's not to say everyone feels that way, and it doesn't even necessarily apply to me (remember I'm the site's premier Beautiful Things stan). There are always exceptions, and there are people who don't fit the mould in general, but look at the multichart #1s of 2025 - https://www.buzzjack.com/forums/topic/281247-buzzjack-songs-multichart-1009/ Ed Sheeran snatching a week with Azizam is the sole primary male artist the entire year, with Lady Gaga even achieving a 10 week #1 with Abracadabra. I don't understand the intense defensiveness towards Ordinary, or Alex himself, and there have been numerous posts insisting on respect for Ordinary when it's quite clear that, among those vocal enough in the chart forum, that it's not that popular on the site. That's okay! It's a huge hit and nobody could possibly diminish that with the amount of time it spent at #1. It doesn't need a single bit of validation from Buzzjack. Anyone who took my post personally needs to re-read it and touch some grass.6 points- The online safety act
6 pointsYou would be surprised how many people don’t use Instagram. I really don’t understand how people are so nonchalant and basically accepting big corp using their data. It’s the most valuable thing that currently exists and you’re fine giving it out for free to companies that do not and will never have your best interests at heart? Okay. Also government issued IDs?! Are you uploading them on social media too? Internet is supposed to be anonymous, it’s the most powerful tool for building communities to, for example, criticize, plan and fight regimes. Now you’re just placing 100% of trust and control over yourself into whatever government your politically illiterate neighbours might choose. That’s not how the world works at this stage in time, the age of naïveté is over, fascism is on the rise and we have to keep governments in check at all times. That’s the biggest fear and concern I have over this whole shitshow personally.6 points- Perrie - If He Wanted To He Would
5 points- Can Reform win the next election?
5 pointsI'm going to focus on the central theme here because there's no need to respond to most of this poorly-researched and error-ridden gish gallop. That central theme is: Why is immigration so high as a pressing issue and is it a sensible issue to be so high? It's not because it affects anyone's wellbeing, because unless you're in direct competition for jobs with immigrants (far less likely than anyone would have you believe, as immigrants are inherently at a disadvantage due to Right To Work), it doesn't. In fact it's inherently illogical to focus on as an issue in comparison to the economy or any number of public services which all do directly affect most voters. Yet it has been at every election for some time a significant one. Why? It's not quite as simple as 'politicians use it as a distraction', but it's so easy to do for unscrupulous ones because many of the population are primed against migrants based on outlier crime stories they imagine are a common reality, or some vague sentiments about losing 'their country'. I live in a very diverse part of the country and I love that because of that I have access to a good portion of the whole world relatively near me. If there were concerns about conservative culture coming in with migrants (potentially but likely overblown), or migrant crime (definitely overblown), I'd sympathise somewhat, but ultimately I'm against anti-migrant policies not only because they're cruel but because they are a severe distraction from focusing on economic injustice and actually fixing the economic anxieties that trouble a large number of the people who claim immigration as their primary concern. They want Reform to win the next election, come in with a set of mass deportations et al, and if they worked (a huge if), the problems that plague them would still be there and they wouldn't feel satisfied. They'd enable hardline governments who would enact cruelty and it wouldn't make them satisfied. People need to be mad about the cost of living, income inequality, landlords and corporations sucking up excess wealth far more than they should ever be worried about their local area having a few people born in different places in it. This is why I say they are in a bubble and need to snap out of it, because their reality is shaped by the content they perceive and instinctual fears of the other - it's not reality. This is only affecting right-leaning people consuming copious amounts of political content and that may be a large number of pensioners and a good proportion of economically anxious people but it's quite far from a majority. call me elitist, pretentious and out of touch all you want, it only fuels me further5 points- Streaming Services Chart Discussion; W/C 22/08/25
Given how long people in the real world continue to listen to established favourites rather than following the chart geek fantasy of moving onto new releases every week, I'd say they are very much in touch with reality. 'back to friends' and 'undressed' are still more popular than '12 to 12'.5 points- Streaming Services Chart Discussion; W/C 22/08/25

Putin, being a smart political operator, saw this as a chance to talk about Russian territorial integrity (keeping the parts of Ukraine he's illegally seized) on a piece of land that used to be Russian territory and get some nice photo opportunities for back home. Trump probably tried to negotiate Putin down to peace but failed, possibly in part because the only peace Putin will agree to, Ukrainian land being given over to the Russians, would be immediately nixed by the coalition of the willing. Can't be the 'peace president' when you try and fail to make peace. And as ever, actually watch his news conferences. Man is sundowning hard. It is approaching criminal negligence on the part of the media, who allegedly operate in a democracy, that they are not questioning Trump's LITERAL BASIC COMPETENCY to appear like a statesman representing the world's largest economy. Recently I decided it'd be a good idea to listen to all of the songs I'd recorded as a Personal Chart #1, now that there are over 400 of them. It gave me the idea that I could turn it into a thread and write a bit about them, especially with this forum existing, given I started recording it towards the start of the period it covers. So after some time of thinking about doing it, here we are. I'll revisit them one-by-one, rate them in the current day and rank each years entries at the end of the year. I'll try and remember how I felt about the song/band at the time, look at what they prevented from reaching the top and any glaring errors I made. How often I'll post, or how long I'll pretend I'll make any significant inroads to it... who knows? But if I only commit to this being something I do when I've time and interest, then I might actually get further than I anticipate! The charts were something I got into in about 1997 when I was just 8, listening to the top 40 every Sunday I could, demanding it be put on in the car if we were driving anywhere, and checking it all on Ceefax on the Monday morning. Typically, I'd write down two versions of this - the actual chart, and one in my order of preference. This was sort of a personal chart although you'd get runs of 1-OUT given it would only be the UK top 40 I'd do it with. It was like I was made to look back in 2025 and realise I'd spent 60% of my life as a member of internet forums predominantly centred around music and the charts... In the early 2000s I did change the way I recorded so it would be my favourite songs regardless of whether they were in the UK chart, but I still made it close to official as songs only entered in release week, which lasted until the beginning of 2007. Not all of those stolen blank school textbooks survived however, so 2003 is the furthest back the archive starts...4 points- Streaming Services Chart Discussion; W/C 15/08/25
